Damaged and missing parts after dealer service

After 5 years of dealer only service my 991S appears to have a missing rubber grommet from the rear fan assembly and a stripped sump drain plug (hex head) likely from heavy handed application of poor tooling.  Not happy with dealer service at all. I suspect a different mechanic (or apprentice) works on the car each time so this could be a rookie error not to observe correct tightening torque. But to then ignore the damaged/missing parts on subsequent service calls! Definitely not the level of service that I expect.

If this is all you've experienced in about 5 years then that's not bad service at all.  It doesn't matter whether it's a Porsche, Kia or Bentley....the mechanics are human and can make mistakes.  Unpleasant for us and the cost can be obviously be significantly different between the brands but typically all owners would be disappointed.

My Evo which has gone in for a service on average every 8 weeks (5,000 kms) for the past almost 11 years due to the kilometres it is driven, has had a number of things occur over the years of servicing and 290,000 kms.

The oil sump plug was over tightened a number of times and eventually the thread was stripped ..... upon further inspection we spotted a torsion twist in the same area of the actual sump.  They did suggest it had been hit but there were no scrapes or burrs.....it was obvious a technician being heavy handed over a long period of time.  A new sump was supplied by the dealer and they fitted it - all at their cost.

The car has a number of plastic panels under the engine area and over time they didn't fit properly and a number of the plastic grommets and screws were missing causing plastic panels to fall off and catch the road.  The dealer supplied new ones and fitted them - all at their cost.

They left the engine air filter out and it was discovered a few thousand kms later.  A special note was put on file stating that if the engine developed issues associated with crap getting in to the engine, then this would likely be the cause and  it would become a dealer issue and not an owner issue.

Lots of little things over the years.  You can take any number of approaches but they end up in 2 camps - 1. yell and scream or 2. have a calm chat.

My suggestion is that the solution would be to contact the dealer and have the calm chat.

I've had a similar experience, small parts missing minor scuffs, work not being done that i've requested (forgot to install a provided magnetic drain plug), parts thrown out that I've requested back and overfilling my oil when I had them install a spin on filter adaptor. - That list is over 4 years.

However they have always sorted it all out. Give the service manager a call, I'd be surprised if they don't sort it out.

Emails with pics of before and after always help if available...

+1 on the calm chat

I had similar issues. I handed my 3.2 for some work to an independent. the next 3 - 5 days after I had the car back I noticed the following missing or damaged:

1/ 3 of the 4 genuine tyre caps were missing.

2/ The clock plastic glass / bezel was cracked in two places.

3/ One of the little hooks / clasp which secures the sun visor was missing.

I did mention point 3 within the week of getting the car back  and was handed another clasp, only to find when I took it home to put on the car that it was the wrong type.

Hence I sourced another myself, got new caps and unfortunately the clock glass is still broke. Does anybody know where I could purchase a clock glass from?

What I find hard to understand is that how would these things items break or go missing!!!!

Had issues with an independent as well, scratched side skirt (which was repaired) and a damaged instrument cluster which they denied all responsibility for and the biggest one - transmission housing done up with a rattle gun which cost me around $400 to have a specialist fix.

The above is why I use PCM

There's a few good reasons to use a single service place.  The main one is that they're the only people who work on the car,  therefore there can be no blame shifting when it comes to mistreated,  busted or missing stuff.

A second one is continuing support and relationship means other stuff like great even sensational pricing on service labour  and replacement parts.  I've saved thousands over the years.

Of course,  you need to find it first but after that it's very beneficial.

Can anyone advise of / provide a list of Porsche independents (say 3-4) in the north / west  region of Sydney (Carlingford area) I know of two, however I was wandering if there were others. I have both an air cooled and water cooled model 911. Just asking the question, to see what options I have.

Lots of thievery in workshops - substitution of your good part for their crap part.

Very possible your clock with good glass was swapped for a crook one (very easy to do). Even in a 'good' place if there is one bad apple it infects the rest of the shop.

Name n shame fellas, name n shame! I use a small Porsche indy and would only do so where I know the owner (friendly relationship) of the business and only the same guy works on my cars every time. For my van etc, my kids cars,  I do exactly the same with my local guy and his 3 staff are all great....

Had my seat release broken by independent, didn't realise for awhile, passenger side, I don't carry passengers much it didn't notice it for a couple of months.

It was the first time I tried this particular shop and won't return.
