Taffy Posted 29April, 2018 Report Share Posted 29April, 2018 Hey All, Can i ask if someone could please take a photo of what the inside of the rear guard looks like. Mine looks like below and was picked up as an issue in a road worthy as missing the lower section but i don't see how one could be mounted and struggling to find reference to them on the net. Thanks, Taffy

Thanks, Taffy That is how they are no inner liner at the rear.. if it had one it would melt. Who is doing your RWC? Sounds like they don’t know Porsches. My 98 c2 is at a workshop now having a RWC done, they have experience with Porsches but are not one of the Porsche specialists here in Melbourne
Skippy Posted 29April, 2018 Report Share Posted 29April, 2018 Hey Taffy, I too have my 996 at the mechanic's garage so I can't send you a photo of mine however I have referred to my trusty 650 page Porsche 996 The Essential Companion and I have found a photo of how it comes and there is no cover. Yours looks like it is standard. Good luck with your situation.

dan_189 Posted 1May, 2018 Report Share Posted 1May, 2018 It does look like that shield is cracked at the top though? Might just be the picture?
Pokiou Posted 2May, 2018 Report Share Posted 2May, 2018 @Taffy Do your self a favor and go get your car. If they dont know the basics of a 911 god knows what else they will try and make up. Engine in the wrong place maybe??? Seriously i would avoid a shop that cant pick stuff like that up or even take the time to research it.
James P Posted 2May, 2018 Report Share Posted 2May, 2018 I use Temby Auto Service for RWC's they are just down the road from Auto Coupe in Eltham, they know Porsches & go by the book but are not silly, the owner of the shop Andrew has a 997 & Cayman
Taffy Posted 2May, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 2May, 2018 Thanks guys, don’t worry the car is in my garage and away from them. Been talking to a friend who recently got an air cooled 911 through a Roady and might try his place but no problem with real issues but not bs from not understanding the car they are looking at. i noticed that @dan_189, need to check again as I didn’t see it when I had the wheel off which was odd. cheers Taffy
dan_189 Posted 2May, 2018 Report Share Posted 2May, 2018 So it didn't pass the roadworthy?? If that liner is cracked its easy to replace mine was cracked too before I replaced it. I've actually got one for a driver's side mk1 as a seller sent me one for a mk1 and it doesn't fit a mk2.
Taffy Posted 2May, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 2May, 2018 No it didnt as they wanted a short list of things, there is a thread called project jelly bean in the tribute builds section which has photos of some of the issue spots. Also needs a transmission mount, some grommets on the wheel sensor wiring replaced, the front bump stops showing aging so not happy with those and handbrake needs adjustment. But also they could not read an engine number (see photo of it in the thread...), operate the headlights (they didn't understand how fog lights work), didn't take the wheels off as they didn't look in the tool pouch for the anti theft socket. @dan_189 Will check again once i am back in Melbourne and if its cracked will send you a PM to see if you want to give up that Mk1 liner.
