wasserkuhl Posted 21September, 2013 Report Share Posted 21September, 2013 Both these cars interest me. I like the 86 Best and the price is just like WOW. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-944-1986/SSE-AD-2302977/?Cr=2&sdmvc=1 The 944S is obviously a minter but, is the price right? and the steering wheel needs to be heaved out in the scrub. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-944-1988/SSE-AD-2349587/?Cr=0&sdmvc=1 I want the silver one. SteveF Posted 21September, 2013 Report Share Posted 21September, 2013 Hi Wasser, Glad you posted this as I have been keeping my eye on the 944 market. Both are nice looking cars and appear to be in great condition. Not sure about the interior of the silver one but you are right the price is pretty good. The S does appear to be a little high in value but it has only been listed in the last week. There is another S which has also just been listed recently which is advertised for similar money. What about these S2s which you could have for the same price as the 944 S? They also look to be in great condition. Aren't the S2s a better car? (Sorry Joel) http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-944-1990/SSE-AD-2276816/?Cr=21&sdmvc=1 http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Porsche-944-1989/SSE-AD-890578/?Cr=18&sdmvc=1 Steve
wasserkuhl Posted 21September, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 21September, 2013 Steve, I have had an 1989 S2 and can say that it is an under-rated vehicle, I'd prefer an S2 over a 951(std). That said, I have always been interested in the 85.5 onwards 944 and 944S.(ie: oval dash models) In this situation I'd go for an S2 at 20k as opposed to an S for many reasons (more power and torque, brakes, better looking etc..) I think that perhaps the Rarity of S models makes them unique, however you are correct in saying that an S2 is the superior vehicle. I still like the bog stock entry level 944 'normal' in silver, with the 'p o r s c h e' cloth interior.

TINGY Posted 21September, 2013 Report Share Posted 21September, 2013 If it's my money, S2, no question. I have an 86 944 and it goes great, just lacks a few herbs down low. Next one will be a S2 or 968. That silver one looks mint...................Steve F?

My interest is also in the 85.5 + model and haven't decided which one NA, S or S2. Are you going to have a look at the silver one?

Aussie944S Posted 22September, 2013 Report Share Posted 22September, 2013 The S and S2 are the goods as a DD in MHO.... But I'm biased..... I would rather the S as far as I've been told 35 dealer deliveries in late 1987 to early 1988, with 1000+ S2 from mid 1988 on. Also its nearly all interchangeable... within reason and well...... S is best.... hahaha
Greg944 Posted 22September, 2013 Report Share Posted 22September, 2013 A 1000 S2? Where did you hear that? I heard 160 odd came to Australia.... Very little on the engines is interchangeable. It would be interesting to experience the difference in torque between the 8v, 2.5lt 16v and 3.0lt 16v. Cheers Greg
SteveF Posted 22September, 2013 Report Share Posted 22September, 2013 Interesting information. Thanks guys. What are the general thoughts on the 944 with the 2.7 engine? I believe they were only made for 1 year. Is that a good or a bad thing?
Greg944 Posted 22September, 2013 Report Share Posted 22September, 2013 2.7 cars: allegedly very hard to get engine parts for. Heads are different to the 2.5 8v heads, block is same as S2. Greg
Aussie944S Posted 22September, 2013 Report Share Posted 22September, 2013 Greg, Just relaying info provided from Porsche dealer in Melbourne when I looked into my car. There was a website that had export info from the factory, I'll have a look through some old PP posts talking about the same thing see if I can find it. As for parts manifold for the S2 fits the S for example. 2.7 probably not worth the trouble in MHO

Rare cars. The only problem with 944 S2's is the 911. 928,968,912 etc all have the same problem.
