Opinions Required - Carrera RS2.7 Replica

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I currently don't own a porsche though i'm hoping to change that soon. I have over the last year or two fallen in love with the pre-sc style 911s and I was hoping to get some opinions of a RS2.7 replica that I have been looking at on carsales. If anyone could give me any thoughts / initial impressions I would really appreciate it. I live in Perth and the care if for sale in Vic.

Fantastic Carrera RS2.7 Replica. The perfect blend of a lightweight 1970 911E body matted to a 1985 Carrera 3.2 engine - approx 975kg with 240hp. Handles, drives and sounds fantastic! No expense has been spared to maintain this car and it is has been a reliable daily driver for the last 4 years. George Cains exhaust, sounds phenomenal with approx +10hp. Just serviced, with new tyres, and a current roadworthy.

Features include:
- 915 5spd gearbox, with brass bushing
- Carrera oil cooler
- Koni shocks
- S callipers with braided lines
- George Cains exhaust (+10 hp)
- 7x15" front and 8x15" rear, original Fuchs wheels
- Turbo tie rods
- Turbo valve covers
- High torque starter

Serious buyers only.

*EDIT - as pointed out to me, VIN check shows body is a 1970 911E not a 1974 911T!

Kas,

There was a bit of a discussion about this car a week or so ago in the general what's interesting for sale thread that might be useful to you.

At the end of the day it's really a question of:

Is the PPI OK?

Can you live without AC?

Are you willing to learn how to appreciate a 915?

Are you aware that the market for forward/back dates is pretty small and it may take some time to on-sell?

If all the answers are all "Yes", you know what to do!

Hi Kasra,

It would be worth knowing where the car came from as it looks like a converted car - not that there is any problem with that but you would want to have it checked out re quality/value of the work done for the conversion (later model dash etc.).

Worth noting that if this was an original LHD 1970 E it would be worth good money in original condition (above asking price), unfortunately the money spent on later model engine, panels and paint don't add to the price so it makes it hard to establish a 'real' value based on the advert.

You need to take it for a drive and if you like it get it checked out by an independent specialist. The airfare and time spent to come and check it out would be worth the investment and could save you down the track!

Best of luck!

The RS you want was on sale two weeks ago. White with black lettering. Built by Zag brothers nephew Tony in Sydney. A really lovely job and very through. A lot of receipts for engine and gearbox rebuild by performance 9 in Melbourne. I understand there was a lot of interest. I didn't publicise it here as was very interested myself.

No bagging this one but lets just say get a very through PPI.

My advice is to get zag to build you one if you are serious about a good RS.

550Spyder, are you commissioning a Zag car?

Don't want to say too much but have purchased car and in discussion with zag and one other builder. Apparently kidneys are hugely over rated anyway...

Will advise when I have some arrangements locked down..

Hi Kasra,

As the others have mentioned you need to get on a plane and go see and drive the car. I bought both my cars over east and it is a great experience and something you really need to do in relation learning about the history of the car and owner.

If it's what you're looking for and the PPI doesn't show any horror stories, I say go for it.

Have you driven any older Porsches ? I love my Carrera and 915 box, but they're not to everyone's taste and take a bit of getting used to, certainly a lot different to your Focus. But that's part of the enjoyment in learning to drive these cars.

Let me know if you're interested in a catch up before you take the next step.

Dave.
