Do I need to run my original engine in Classic Adelaide?

Hey guys,

I am in the middle of building my car, and I would love to compete in the Classic Adelaide in the Thoroughbred catagory. My car is a US Delivered '74 911 which has been converted to RHD.

I am in the process of "back dating" it at the moment, to a wide bodied 2.8 RSR look. Does that make my car ineligible straight away?

I am also looking at changing the 2.7 which has pulled head studs, to a newer better engine. I was looking at a 3.2 as that would come in under the 1985 cut off, although if I could put a 964 engine in it that would be even better (but I assume that is definitely too new). I have scoured the rules, but I can't find anything about engine upgrades?

Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff.

Here ye go my man. http://media.wix.com/ugd/effba5_ab05916e5ed34e4daf51d7963cdeb01a.pdf

Yes, it's run under the Targa Australia guidelines, but by the sporting Car Club of SA.   with your proposed engine change I suspect you would come under the Modified Specification 5E category.  However, with a G series Porsche 3501cc is your limit. The body backdating mod I'm not sure.  Best to contact Targa Aust.

Thanks for that. From what I have read there, I am guessing that I should probably be able to get by with a 3.2 Carrera engine. I also think I should be Ok with the body mods, as they do allow for fibreglass replacement bonnet, rear hatch, and they say front "mud guards". I assume my fibreglass replacement front guards are what they mean. They also allow fibreglass front and rear bumpers.

I will have to look at wheels, as I am planning on running 17x9 and 17x11's on the street, but it looks like I am capped at a max of 17x8's so I will probably just use my 16x7 and 16x8 rims I already have, with spacers.

It looks like I need a little bit of confirmation, but I could still be eligible to have some fun :)

I was worried if I built the car I want, I would be limited to just running Super Sprints. I really want to drive hard through the hills I grew up in, in my dream car (legally ;) ).

Another ex-pat.  Where from?

I'll go through the process again after Christmas.  I was keen for this year, but things turning out the way they did, I pulled the pin.

I grew up in Mt Barker Springs, and went to high school in Adelaide, so I went up and down the old freeway every day. Seeing a 930 one day flying up and down the hill from Devils elbow to Eagle on the hill and back was what first made me want a Porsche :D

As above you will be fine with any non fuel injected engine up to 3500cc. Fuel injection is definitely out for NA Porsches in classic.

With body work anything that has recognised Motorsport pedigree is normally fine as well.

The hgher the level of mods, the higher the mod category (SS,LMS,MS) and the heavier the handicap.

Also if you are just planning to participate and not finish in front of people who will care, you can run anything :)

I plan on giving it a go, but I won't have the experience to be a threat. If I get the bug I would probably aim to get a more purpose specific car (although I know it's a slippery slope). ?

Buddy , if you find someone who actually knows these specs inside and out , I would be willing to enagae them with you to ask similar questions about the Escort!!  Im about to embark of a Zetec with Webber build , but cant find clarity also on my fat arches..  i have been asking around ..seem a bit of a science….   Biggest question , do they allow Tartan - Purple Tartan?

I think the tartan may be easier to get through than the engine and flares, although it is not a good idea to make assumptions :P
