Timm Posted 28December, 2016 Report Share Posted 28December, 2016 Great read, had no idea about the PDK tests...imagine a 944 with PDK!
Peter M Posted 28December, 2016 Report Share Posted 28December, 2016 In the third photo down there is a side shot of an engine that shows an oil line from just below the oil filter to the sump plug. What would that be for, even on this pre-production engine?

TINGY Posted 29December, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 29December, 2016 In the third photo down there is a side shot of an engine that shows an oil line from just below the oil filter to the sump plug. What would that be for, even on this pre-production engine?I copied the photo and enlarged it, it looks to be a braided line and bolts back into the block, maybe BB can guess what it may have been for.Great read, had no idea about the PDK tests...imagine a 944 with PDK!Yeah what about that, PDK way back then, it took them a long time to perfect it maybe. It really is a good read. Timm Posted 29December, 2016 Report Share Posted 29December, 2016 I wonder if that line is an early version of the return for the oil pressure relief valve?
TINGY Posted 29December, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 29December, 2016 I wonder now if the earliest engines were actually like this.

Peter M Posted 29December, 2016 Report Share Posted 29December, 2016 I wonder if that line is an early version of the return for the oil pressure relief valve?Seems to be closer to the main oil gallery than the relief valve? So evidence Porsche knew all along that aeration was a problem and this was an experiment to bleed down the gallery to see if they could make No. 2 rod last a bit longer!!!
