Got to meet my hero today.

After years of being a Porsche fan boy I finally got to see my favourite Porsche of all, the mighty 917/30.

And what a beast it is! I can even begin to imagine driving something with close to a 2:1 power to weight ratio in qualifying trim...absolutely nuts.

If anyone knows if this monster will be driven or even just have the engine turned on at any up coming events, please let me know, I would love to see/hear this thing in action!

Check out those massive rear treads and huge turbos!

There was also a beautiful 956 and 718 on display.

And a nice GT3 RS outside, I have to say Porsche really knocked it out of the park with the 991's styling, such a great looking car.

Really Nice huh? I was lucky enough to see a whole collection of different 917's at the P Museum a few years ago. They really are very intimidating in the flesh.

Awesome, I really want to go to the new museum, must be so amazing!

Back when I went, they were still building it and only had a couple cars on display in a small building elsewhere. They did have the flat 16 for the prototype CanAm 917 on display though, as well as a 911 GT1-98 which was very cool.

It gets around! Here it is at Laguna Seca in 2015.

The USA Rennsport is THE event to attend if you want to watch all the hero cars actually race! I've never seen so many 917's in one place let alone on the track.. a real treat.

The other iteration of the 917 is in the Le Mans museum.

You can experience the Sunoco car on Assetto Corsa!

Yeah I went and got it just for that car haha! Trying to man handle that beast around the Nurburgring with all the assists off is a bunch of fun. I can only imagine driving it in real life would require some serious skills and massive balls.

What a beauty! I think it's a different car though, there are a few subtle differences between the one I saw today. I think there were six 917/30's built in total, of which three raced? And yes, Rennsport is a bucket list event for sure.

...though without the excitement of actually having your feet beyond the front axle!

And knowing you can die at any time :D

The test drivers refused to drive the first versions due to massive instability. David Piper losing his leg didn't do much for the reputation either! Back when racing OH&S was paid lip service.
