I was wondering if anyone has had heated seats retrofitted to a 986 in Melbourne or any other car for that matter and could provide me with some contact information???

Thanks heaps in advance for any info you can give me :)

Hi Awit, welcome, as you have experienced people here are very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and helpful. And very welcoming and encouraging. They are exceptionally worthy ambassadors and their passion is obvious. Hopefully one day they will be recognized for this. As they deserve.

Wondering how your quest for the heated seats is going...have you called Porsche Centre Melbourne and asked what they can do?

They are also very encouraging and enthusiastic...to liberate you of your money :D

I am interested as I love driving my 2007 987 S with the top down alot, and will do so down to about 10-12 degrees. It is comfortable, even with the heater off. The heaters in these cars (had a 986 S that was stolen prior to my current) are phenomenal and capable of slow cooking a small roast (usually my left calf) so at full blast the only issue I have is some cooling of my shoulders and upper back and my left ear. A beany, scarf and warm jacket or jumper usually solves this so I haven't thought too much about heated seats but wonder if they would solve the cold upper back issue.

So am interested to read about your adventures with this issue!

Hi Nick

After making this post, i got a bit confused as to which Porsche I want to buy! I did look up the powertech site that was mentioned on the first page of this thread (link below so you don't have to go look it up) and that seemed like a pretty good option. I can't remember if I googled them looking for reviews or not. But might be worth doing if you consider it.

Not sure what your previous cars have been, but I have heated seats in my GTI and I LOVE them. I think you'd get a lot of use from them given how often you drop your top!

Unfortunately my employer is going through a rationalisation (as they call it) so I'm not sure if buying a car is a very sensible thing to do right now ;) so I'll see what happens over the next 6 - 12 months. In the meantime, I'm happy to internet shop.. hang out here and maybe come along to one of the sunday meets and see all the different P's :)

Don't answer any of Niko's questions until you speak to a lawyer!!!!!!

Being a Northern Suburbs boy I can recommend a few experienced in defending fraud, both insurance and Centrelink.

Drop me a PM and I'll give you the details!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Parked my car in Kavanagh St South Bank 30mtrs from Southbank Blvd opposite 'The Sentinel' (#80?) building at 6.30 pFriday 16th Feb 2012 to go to Vlado's for a steak with a mate.

On my return at 10.30p, I swapped shoes in the boot of my car and went up to my mates apartment. At 3.30a I came down to go home and my car had 'become' a Honda jazz.

I found bits of my door lock on the ground. Suspected the car was towed away on a tray as near impossible to hot wire according to PCA and guys at Weltmeister.

Last I heard, it went over the Bolte the following night, thieves didn't notice my etag...I have been paid out so don't know if it has been recovered...

More about it here...

Doish, hope you dont mind if i repost the following...

I am motivated to debunk the smiley, caring, 'the car comes first', 'we get you' marketing bullshit that masks the darker underbelly of insurance services.

That may all be true until you make a claim.

I just got the payment for my stolen vehicle, 4 months after the incident from Shannon's. 4 months of paying repayments and insurance for a car I no longer had.

Waiting for 4 months to receive my hire car reimbursement. They didn't pay the interest on the credit card...

5 hours of interrogation by their investigator. Countless back and forth requests, time wasting, expense on accountant and bookkeeper...

And the amount of information they wanted...phone records for my wife and I, detailing who we called and the purpose of the call, eac call for 2 weeks around the date (i use my phone for business, alot of business) city link records, business and personal financials, bank statements, credit card statements, insurance policies, credit and insurance history, afp check, service record of the car etc etc

And it is considered an at fault claim! Pay the excess on top of it all!

If you wanted to f someone over, just make their ride disappear, the hassle alone will be a MAJOR trauma!

Hope you never have to go through something like this.

I don't think the people on the phone giving you quotes and helping you out have any idea what goes on when a claim is made and the people you deal with and how you are treated.

Some people I spoke with were fantastic, polite, respectful and really professional, others seemed to be on a total power trip.

The impression I got was everything was extremely compartmentalised. There was the general customer service area, there was the investigations dept., comprising a claim manager and an investigator hired from a 3rd party private investigation firm that was sub contracting and reporting back to the investigations department in Suncorp, there was a department that dealt with the credit card reimbursement, there was a settlement manager and then a settlement department that oversaw the settlement payment. And none of these departments and people spoke with or knew what any other person or department had said or done during the entire process. Towards the end, a few of these people needed to coordinate and it seemed I was the one orchestrating it all. A total shambles. One person from investigations would say my claim had been approved, but the other settlements department claimed their computer didn't show the claim approval, then the payments/settlements assessor didn't have information on the approval to finalise the payout etc etc.

A week after they approved my claim, one afternoon on the phone trying to get my hire car fee reimbursed (finally - they refused to pay it until the investigation was concluded) I lost my biscuit at this one bitch on a complete power trip and stated I wanted to speak to a manager so I could get all their id's to report them to the ombudsman. As soon as I said that magic word (ombudsman) everything was settled within the week and I had my hire car fee eft'ed that afternoon.

I was really angry and in shock with the degree and depth of information they demanded and how shitty the entire experience was.

I am yet to call them to enquire about how the information will be used now that my claim is approved. They literally have my entire life in paperwork they demanded from me and could easily open bank accounts, apply for finance, credit cards, mortgages whatever with the information I have supplied.

I didn't have to supply that much information for my mortgage!

And I didn't feel I could really question them on the need of it all without appearing evasive and having something to hide, which I didn't.

And the worst thing I came to realise was they had everything on me, my assets, my bank balances, my cashflow, turnover, volume of business, cash in the bank, list of clients (from my phone bill) and available credit on my cards and knew down to the dollar and cent what I had available should we have ended up in court with me needing to contest their outcome or sue them.

And I signed an agreement and waiver allowing them to contact any 3rd party to investigate my claim, so my clients, accountant, friends, suppliers, my bank and finance company, others I had called all were available to them had they wanted...

Talk about having your life and destiny completely in someone else's hands!

Honestly, I am a changed man now with my car, how I park it (make it as difficult as possible to use a tip tray to tow it away) where I park it and for how long, I plan what I do and where I will be going and if I feel it too risky, I take wifey's non-p regular everyday car...

Honestly, if you wanted to really screw someone over, just set fire to their car! Or damage it in such a way it looks really sus and is a write off. They will be tied up and stressed by the claim process they will be f'ed! Totally.

I am only now starting to get over this all. At the end of the day I really LOVED that car, dreamed of having it in my garage forever. My first ever! Fulfilling a lifelong dream from when I was 12...

I still have to follow up what will happen to my file, I want some things in writing, I am going to demand what information they have on me according to privacy laws and I may yet write it all up and send it to the ombudsman.

At the end of the day, they run a business and don't make hundreds of millions in profit cutting cheques to anyone that asks. I would be as stringent if not more so.

But it still really sucks to go through it. All I can say is I hope this tale of woe makes you think to protect yourself. I hope you never have to go through something like this nor have any of your pride and joys stolen.

I found there are a few major insurance market makers in Australia that differentiate with specific branding.

Even though I was wih Shannon's, and GIO offered me a more competitive price, they are both owned and run by Suncorp, so I changed brands but am with the same insurer in the end.

I have read about Lumley's and will give them a call this week to get a quote, see how they stack up but I believe they are a broker so don't expect too much of a saving.

I haven't asked Porsche in Melbourne to quote me either, might see how they stack up also.

In my experience, they are all the same, take your money happily like clockwork and do sneaky shit on the side like reduce your agreed value by a percentage every year unless you call them on it and make out you are robbing them when you go to make a claim.

I feel they have a disconnect between their taking your money on the one hand and then coming good on the service they are supposed to offer on the other - paying out when I need to claim.

What about you?

Who are you insured with and what has your experience been like?

Firstly, I challenge anyone to find a post this long.

I've heard they can really put you through the third degree!

I can understand they need to investigate however I would have a huge problem giving them that level of personal and financial detail.

I love the word Ombudsman!

Glad its over let me tell you!

Prevention definitely better than claiming!

And agree re being reserved but felt being evasive not really conducive of a successful and rapid outcome.

And really, with nothing to hide, there is no logical reason to refuse their demands I guess...

All I can say is using the 'ombudsman' word really shook them up. I understand they get a whole lot of shizer rain down on them and go through more work if the O gets involved. So they avoid it whenever they can.

Yikes..... Sorry to have put you through that ...shite, you should be going for a PTSD claim after all that.

I had the flat top or tow truck in mind, organised crews out there doing that, but I'm sure you know that stealing to order.

Could tell you lots of stories where the opposite of yours was the case, so I guess you got put through the wringer due to the insurance rip offs that do occur unfortunately. Certainly doesn't excuse their attitude and consideration in your treatment.

Coppers wouldn't have done too much I'm thinking, because most of the specialist squads including the stolen car squad were disbanded by NIXON in her ( lack) of wisdom.

Anyway, you look fully recovered from the look of the tail pipes that I got last week.

Thanks for sharing, I will keep what you have said about the insurance company you mentioned in mind.

I just read your story out to "the luckiest woman in the world" she said, it should go onto some sort of insurance companies forum, something like Tripadviser. I think you have done that on this forum.

Good grief Nick! What a bloody nightmare. Interesting Suncorp were at the back of all this. A guy I used to work with filed a break in claim on his home insurance and got the complete run around from Suncorp. He had about 5 luxury watches stolen, in the end they tried all the could not to pay out those watches even tho every one of them was listed on his policy with proof of purchase etc Took him about 7 months to finally get his money. So sounds like this is how Suncorp operate. You get violated by some A hole theif and then again by the insurance company!

Go to Ombudsman anyways if you can be bothered... make life hell for them!

Also.. the whole tilt tray thing. I think if I saw a car being towed like that, I'd probably just assume it was being repossessed. So I wonder how many people just walked past whilst they were stealing it.

So do you guys park your 996/986 late model Porsches at shopping centre car parks like Highpoing/Chaddy or the Casino etc??

Hi Nick,

That's truly awful. I always wonder about insurance companies as you never really know what they are like until you have to claim.

I am going through something similar with travel insurance at present. My sister passed away at the start of this month and my wife and I cancelled a trip we had planned last month as we wanted to be with her in her final days, we knew it wouldn't be long. The insurance company are putting me through the wringer over it. Quite distressing really....

Nice pickie, awit. It,s great not being a faceless person anymore.

I didn't know what avatar to use! i nearly used a pic of myself but then thought better of it. Given all the hoo haaa over the GT, I figured the pink 911 was fun. I have to say, I'm more a fan of the color red tho.. just not on cars!

Thanks Amanda, not much fun and you really do find out how good a company is when you call on them to make good on what they promise. I am talking about a lousy 4k as the airline and most of the hotels refunded or allowed a postponement. The cruise to Bermuda we had booked couldn't be postponed which is what we are claiming. The crap they have put me through is very similar to what Nick has described. Anyway there is a principle involved nw more than anything so I will keep fighting them.

The run last weekend was just the tonic I needed. Got rid of a few frustrations, had a blast and a nice chat at the end.

Love the choice of avatar but sorry colour wouldn't be more choice, it's gotta be black :)

Really sorry to hear that Chris. The problem is we need them to step up in our time of need, when something we held dear that was important to us has been damaged or is gone. And they need to prevent their losses because so many people commit insurance fraud in this country...

Oh well...I hope you get a successful outcome without too much bother. Try dropping the 'Ombudsman' bomb on them and see if that nudges things along.

Lulz! Yep, really took the wind out of my sails for quite a few weeks there in the thick of it let me tell you!

I had the flat top or tow truck in mind, organised crews out there doing that, but I'm sure you know that stealing to order.

Yep! Saw a nice Faz on a tilt tray the other day getting shuttled along on Southbank Blvd and couln't help but wonder if it was nicked! It really is the perfect ploy, no one would ever think of stopping a towey or questioning what is on the back of a tilt tray. I have seen many cars even with alarms going off that are being driven on the back of trays and I used to think the owner lost his key and the car is being towed to the dealer/mechanic to be unlocked/reset!

Not any more...now I wonder if the car is being jacked.

Could tell you lots of stories where the opposite of yours was the case, so I guess you got put through the wringer due to the insurance rip offs that do occur unfortunately.

Would love to hear some of your war stories, had I known you were a member I would have annoyed you more for stories on our SMT! Oh well, you won't get away that easy next time! :D

Certainly doesn't excuse their attitude and consideration in your treatment.

Yes. That was my thinking also. Most of the people I dealt with didn't give two hooters, it was like trying to get some customer service out of a telco, after you had given them your entire life in paperwork. Just a shit sandwich.

Coppers wouldn't have done too much I'm thinking, because most of the specialist squads including the stolen car squad were disbanded by NIXON in her ( lack) of wisdom.

Absolutely correct. I was asked to attend the local (City East) to sign the recovery authority in the event they recovered the car and needed to tow it away. Other than that, the 'all points bulletin' was a blast out on the radio that was to extend as far as Prahran, Richmond, Toorak, Port Melbourne and the City. About a 3 km radius. Just a total joke. As we all know we can be several suburbs away from anywhere in our cars in a matter of minutes. And if you knew what you were doing you would stow the car for a day or two around the corner or locally (as the thieves probably did given the trip across the Bolte) and drive it away the next day or night with some traffic. No one would look twice if it was on the back of a tray.

Anyway, you look fully recovered from the look of the tail pipes that I got last week.

You know...yes...but only in the last 2 weeks or so do I look at my car now and start to get the joyous feelings again...that I am really starting to love this car...so am feeling better as time goes on and have well and truly put that experience behind me.

Thanks for sharing, I will keep what you have said about the insurance company you mentioned in mind.

I just don't want anyone to go through that if they can avoid it. We all flippantly dismiss a potential theft or collision or incident with 'don't worry, its insured' but stop to think what that claim really means to you and your life in that period. And what you may need to provide the insurer. Or cuss forbid you are denied your claim...I don't know anyone that would choose a claim over preventing the incident in the first place. I know I am doing all in my power now to avoid a claim.

I just read your story out to "the luckiest woman in the world" she said, it should go onto some sort of insurance companies forum, something like Tripadviser. I think you have done that on this forum.

Thanks Niko, please pass on my regards. Yes, I think these stories need to get out more so we can be more informed instead of getting brainwashed that we are lucky we are with Amy, that they really get us and that they are out to look after the enthusiast...all a load of marketing BS IMO. <_<

They are there to bank as high a profit as possible by taking as much of our money as possible and making it as difficult as possible for us to get our part of the deal out of them in our moment of need.

Sad to hear that. The Ombudsman told me they have 6 weeks from the time you submit all the information they demad to settle the claim or they have to provide a very compelling reason why they haven't and give a settlement date or refuse the claim. And they will then be investigated by the O. So 7 months is excessive and your friend should have gone to the O.

You get violated by some A hole theif and then again by the insurance company!

Totally. Exactly. Couldn't have said it with fewer words...Stolen from me was also a favorite pair of shoes and driving jacket, pricey phone kit, cds and a trophy pair of leather gloves I bought with a business win I had in my first job 20 years ago. Yes I shouldn't have had all that in the car. But I did. So agreed. Violated. Don't keep anything in your car you can't live without. Other than my gloves, I can live without the rest. Those gloves I ceremoniously put in the 'glove box' of every car I owned and occasionally even wore them whilst driving...oh well...time for a new pair.

Go to Ombudsman anyways if you can be bothered... make life hell for them!

Yep, plan to.

Also.. the whole tilt tray thing. I think if I saw a car being towed like that, I'd probably just assume it was being repossessed. So I wonder how many people just walked past whilst they were stealing it.

Yep, busy part of town. Would definitely been witnesses. I feel the building security could easily act as spotters, they patrol that building all night!

So do you guys park your 996/986 late model Porsches at shopping centre car parks like Highpoing/Chaddy or the Casino etc??

Try not to and if I have to, minimise the time, always look for a spot with alot of good light in highly populated areas. Not that that will help much.

I stopped leaving my car at my local Coles unattended after some c#*t left me an 'envy scratch' one night I ran in to grab 2 cans of tomatoes (had a feeling not to and ignored it). If you get a feeling...listen to it...even if it means inconveniencing yourself. 3 bucks of tinned tomatoes that I wasn't even going to stop for ended up costing me $1300. Door had to be removed, resprayed. Reassembled. Window doesn't shut like it used to and I still have to take it back to get that attended to. My car was factory perfect. Now the door has been removed and painted...what can you do?

Lock it up and never drive it?

Nah...I love driving it too much :D
