vinnytang Posted 31August, 2017 Report Share Posted 31August, 2017 My list of niggly electrical issues on my 944 Turbo is slowly growing. Nothing major – central locking stopped working, occasional blown headlight fuses, etc. Looking for recommendations of shops in Melbourne that specialises in older model Porsches before I give up and pay my local auto-elec $100 an hour to scratch his head. Oh I'm in Northcote and work in Fitzroy, so recommendations close-by would be great. SV is juuuust out of the way for me.
MR901 Posted 31August, 2017 Report Share Posted 31August, 2017 Vinnie, if the job is basic & you're happy to try a general Mechanic you could try M&A Maiolo Mechanics in St George's Rd (near Piedmonte's). I use them for my road car & basic jobs....they recently did some electrical work for me without issue. Not expensive & get the job done. Will be on your drive to Fitzroy & the tram is out the front...CheersMatt
Fraz Posted 31August, 2017 Report Share Posted 31August, 2017 I understand Detlef is somewhat the Auto elec guru, @poli84 has had some work done there. http://www.autohaus911.com/
tazzieman Posted 1September, 2017 Report Share Posted 1September, 2017 Have you checked all fuses (using quality ones with brass) and replaced the window relay?Sometimes (often in my experience) simple cheap solutions exist.
vinnytang Posted 1September, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 1September, 2017 Yeah I've done the basic things like that. Ideally I'd like to tackle this stuff myself, but the list is growing and coupled with my lack of spare time I'd rather just have someone reputable to knock everything out. vinnytang Posted 15September, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 15September, 2017 Quick update, ended up making the trek to SV and was very happy. Quick turnaround, very knowledgeable, had replacement parts on-hand and rebuilt switches and whatever else instead of replacing to save me money. Went through everything on my 944, works great now! Invoice still stung, but I'm sure it would've hurt a lot more if I went elsewhere. Would recommend to anyone that needs the electrical sorted.
