997 or 997.1 GT3 Battery

Left the silver beast off CTEK charge by mistake , I reckon it lasted 4-5 days .

Anyone ever leave a 997 or a GT3 without a trickle charger on?  How long do they last?

I tested the GT3 battery at the local battery shop they said its ok voltage wise .. but im not convinced. Looks like a porsche original battery , but surely not the original at 10 years old..hmmm

Any recommendations for a good aftermarket replacements .. ?Anyone using the glass matt batteries and or Optima or similar? Saves on a lot of weight?

Suggestions ?  I will probably buy two and put a new one in the 993 TT also .. its that time .

The TT can last 3 nearly 4 weeks without a start in my experience , although just ordered another CTEK for that too since all the other charges are off with cars in various corners of the country.

Mate, Bosch batteries! I've got the S4, but for your 997 you can get the S5. 3 years warrantee. mine had an issue after 2 years, got a dead cell ( i left it sitting diss charged for a few months), i took it back, tested it and gave me a new one.  I've done the same with this one, left it diss chagred for a few months, but this one is good. I must have just had a faulty one.

As long the battery has the same specs as the factory Bosch it should be  fine eg CCA and dimensions to fit properly ,,,something like 80% of the worlds car battery,s come from Korea ,,,I got my current 997 battery at battery world looks like a Bosch copy been in the car 2 years and no issues ,,,I do use a battery maintainer to keep it in good condition ,,,just go to a battery specialist like battery world ,,,,much cheaper than original equipment Bosch ...

Hey Steve, just do what Raven said above.

I was told years ago by a rep there wasn't any difference in their batteries (of the same type) they just charged more to cover the longer warranty period on their "premium' ones.

In terms of weight savings... don't have as big a breakfast or take a slimmer friend on your next drive ?

As you know I have everything on trickle charges as that's cheaper than paying for those real expensive batteries on a regular basis

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks , yes x 2 new CTEK colected to day .. battery next week

Did you fit a new battery?

I have been considering the Optima (gell) option for my GT3 when required. Kept the attached article for the Optima battery install kit requirements.

No , I am going to take a look at a friends Full River HC 20 and is cheap I believe and good quality.. not sure if its a fit fo a GT3 but good cranking amps, he has just bout it fo a 911S

I did actually take a look as I had a puncture and my car actually has a full size very normal battery in it by the looks of things.. A century Din 65, not that i want a heavier battery but i also not ice that teh battery in their could be even bigger perhaps in phyiscal size as the securing bracket looks like there are two positions maybe even three and mine is on the smallest

Optima are heavy as .. if your talkin a full size battery like 30kg.. I picked one up at a buddies yesterday out of his classic car. I didn't  note the model

Im off to google

I have had good results from Varta, the one I put in the 993 was still going strong after 9or 10 years, the one in my Audi is still good after 6 , just put one in the gt3 as the 3 year old Bosch, although still green in its test window and tests ok, regularly failed to crank over the car despite being always hooked up to a ctek
