928 5 speed, first one in Aust?

Gentleman of the 928 brigade.

I have a mate who is not a forum member yet, but with me nagging him all the time he probably soon will be.

He is doing up a 928 at the moment.  Mechanically it is finished and now the interior is being done.

He tells me only 9 X 928's were delivered in 1978 to Australia.  Most were 5 speed and then after that they were nearly all auto with about 5% being 5 speeds.

He also tells me the VIN no's start at VIN 9288100011.

This number was apparently the first of the cars released for sale.

The first ten were prototypes and used for press stuff etc.

so the 011 was first of the line to the public.

His, is a silver 5 speed VIN number.  9288100175.

It was originally Aust delivered to a Doctor in Sandy Bay, Hobart.

It is believed to be the first 928 delivered to Australia.

He is trying to fill in the gaps of who and where the car has been.

Anyone have any info on the car?   I have some photos coming..

Interesting Niko, looking forward to some more info/ pics :)

Can't help with much info about it, but someone may be able to fill in some blanks.... have they contacted Tas Transport for any info, if they know of past reg number?

yes mate, I will post up the photos as soon as he sends them to me.

Be interesting if it is the first one delivered to Oz, be a nice one to have.

I don't think he has contacted the Tassy Transport, yet.

He is actually heading over to your part of the world next week for some R&R.

He has recently purchased a house in St Helens

overlooking the bay

and will be living there when he retires and will have the 928 over there.

The early manual ones are the ones bringing big $$ overseas, not sure if the Aus market is ready for that yet! What colour is it Niko?

St Helens is a nice spot, a few good roads around that area to explore with a 928 as well!

Thanks Big Rev Trev, I will get him to contact 1st.

VIN number of the one that 1st sold is a bit different than my mates in the sequence.

It's silver, and the 5 speed, be nice if it does a full about turn and ends up back in Tassy.

he also has a 964 cab so the roads will be getting a work out.

Gidday SCUZZ here, re Niko's stuff I have the 1978 928 5 Speed it is being looked after by Adrian at Hartech at present.

It is very old and in fact some parts were stamped 1977 so with the 175 VIN it is early, possibly oldest here, yet to be confirmed.

I have a 5 speed 928 S4 1987 in Marine Blue nice car too, from NZ.

I also have my trusty 993 Black Manual, owned it for years and a nice drive.  Any info on early 928s is greatly appreciated. Merry Xmas Scuzz

So here is your official welcome to the forum Post....'WELCOME TO THE FORUM"

Now your here don't be a stranger.    (If you have trouble posting photo's up... I can do the ones you sent me.)

I just have to get you into a Cayman now and you will have a great fleet.
