Jason E Posted 30March, 2018 Report Share Posted 30March, 2018 Quick question for the brains trust.......... Are the standard 16 inch 968 wheels forged? My D90's on my 944S2 are really light weight & I was thinking if I was to get another set of wheels I quite like the look of the 968 wheels. cheers, Jason

Jason E Posted 31March, 2018 Author Report Share Posted 31March, 2018 Thanks very much Bruce - so no better but no worse than my D90's? I am amazed at how light my D90s are.
Buchanan Automotive Posted 31March, 2018 Report Share Posted 31March, 2018 Hi Jason the standard 944S2 16" dia cast and painted design 90 wheels are very strong & light = very high quality wheels , the 968 ( 5 spoke) 16" dia standard cast & painted wheels are the same deal in regards to quality but interestingly are even a bit lighter still Example } 944S2 cast 16" X 7 " D90 front wheel = 8.5KG 944S2 cast 16" X 8" D90 rear wheel = 9.9KG 968 cast 16" X 7 " (5 spoke) front wheel = 7.5KG 968 cast 16" X 8" ( 5 spoke) rear wheel = 8.5KG Interesting Trivia } Last 944 series to get Fuchs Forged wheels as "standard" was the 1989 951 Turbo S ( Fuchs Club Sport wheels , forged and anodized silver ) The 968 never had Forged wheels even as an option ( everything was cast and painted to save money ) Last 911 to have Fuchs Forged wheels as "standard" was the 1989 3.2 NA ( Fuchs anodized silver with black centers) and the 1989 3.3 Turbo ( wider Fuchs anodized silver with black centers ) The last Porsche EVER to get Fuchs Forged wheels as "standard" was the 1991 year model 928S4 , Fuchs anodized silver ( the disc wheels ) ------------------------------- The last years that forged Fuchs wheels were an expensive Option only was } 944S2 1991 year model ( available as an option 1989-1990 ), expensive option of the Fuchs forged wheels in silver anodizing ( disc wheel like the 928S4 )but different off-sets to a 928S4 = super rare option as the 1991 year model was made & sold in lower numbers as compared to the 1990 944S2 , I only ever saw it in the option list . And these Fuchs wheels were a different offset to the standard cast D90 wheels 16" X 7 " X 52.3mm ET ( front ) for the Fuchs forged , but standard D90 was 16" X 7" X 55mm , so that meant the forged Fuchs wheels filled out the front guards a bit better , but like I said , super rare option 964 ( 911 ) 1990 & 1991 , like the above 1991 944S2 Fuchs Forged wheels were a very rare option ( only ever saw one with these wheels & that was in a sales brochure when the 964 was released , never ever in real life ) These optional ( rare wheels were different again ) with 16" X 6" X 52.3mm fronts Note } All the above wheels mentioned are all 16" dia as 17" dia was not available on all Porsche NA cars until 1992 year model , meaning the first Porsche to get 17" dia wheels as standard & first Porsche to receive 17" dia wheels as standard was the 1991 911 3.3 Turbo Regards Bruce Buchanan
