They are current doing a lot of major road upgrades that are badly need to hopefully ease some off the huge traffic problems this city currently has ...The bad side is that every upgrade comes with an additional  toll ...

Here , we have too many vehicles - and roads that cannot be widened. Plus , totally wrong terrain for tunnels , bypasses , trains or trams.
So all you mainlanders flocking here , you better be handy driving Shank's pony!

"Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet."

There should also be a weight multiplier for the virtue signalers driving heavy EV as well as a torque multiplier as the EV do more damage accelerating from lights. Then add battery disposal and other end of life cost as well as removal of purchase subsidies were the poor pay to stroke the EV drivers ego and we will see what sort of people buy EV.

  • 2 weeks later...

100% right Mate the European nations are way ahead ....Countries like Germany have huge net work of charge stations and consumer benefits in place ...

One off my biggest frustrations about all things beneficial to the environment in this country is we get charge top dollar and then some extra to do what is good for the  environment..

Many other nations make these environment friendly products cheaper to encourage the consumer to use them and create a win win situation for both consumer and environment ...

Australia is still in the selling it's body to pay the rent stage.
At a global level , there is some irony in all of this. Not much bronzey,  but a whole wad of easy cash.

As long as the pollies keep showing how deeply they "care" about us , we're in a  spot of long term bother.

It seems even more taxing of the poor is required to subsidize the virtue signaling of the rich.

You're not suggesting Champagne Socialism is bad for the environment too?
It's all so confusing. I just want to leave my mark for future generations.
On a tight series of curves. In my Porsch-a

What a positive article, good news, great we are a decade behind and lagging and snowballing backwards. I'll be happy if we never embrace EV or the infrastructure and never have the government fork over a heap of hard earned to support it in any way.

What a fear mongering article and everything mentioned is "urgent" and "we must be compelled" or enticed (with our own dollars) to engage or or or or or …. or what? What would happen in effect if we never embraced EV's? - nothing, business as usual. Electric Vehicle Council is not a government body of course and they have a huge financial agenda to push this, so I take their urging with 10 grains of salt.

"Behyad Jafari, chief executive of the Electric Vehicle Council, He said embracing electric cars could lead to improved public health, better energy security and increased economic activity.

Really? "Improved public health", I don't buy that for a minute, want better health? Exercise and don't eat shit. "Better energy security"? Hmmmm tell that to SA who have power security problems now and soon to be in VIc. And how is all the increased power needs produced that is required for an onslaught of EV's, when we are already at basically maximum production of power atm.  "Increased economic activity" Yes into Behyad's bank account... And activity out of our wallets and not into our wallets.....

I'd love to see the article supply notations and links to the data that supports his word salad of propaganda. None listed or stated of course.
