Airhead Posted 8October, 2012 Report Share Posted 8October, 2012 Drove a 928S at the weekend (wife wants a new car). What a horrible piece of …. It was nothing like I remember from one I drove a few years back. This car felt sluggish, had heavy steering, seemed under braked and slow to react – esp the auto box. Is it me or was this just a bad car? It was relatively cheap though. http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/porsche-928-1981-12513511?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=0&eapi=2&__N=1246+1247+1252+4294963765+4294963547+1216&num=15&silo=Stock&sort=default

T-Man Posted 8October, 2012 Report Share Posted 8October, 2012 Agreed, there is something so 70-80s cool about them. Some interesting figures on the link to digest regarding performance for different options. http://www.928.org.uk/news/99-articles/80-porsche-928-performance.html

nine93 Posted 8October, 2012 Report Share Posted 8October, 2012 Took the same car for a drive about a month ago and what a disappointing half hour. The box was sluggish and I'd forgotten just how dated they are for such a great looking car back then and still now. K
Niko Posted 8October, 2012 Report Share Posted 8October, 2012 That's really surprising and disappointing, everything I have ever heard about 928's has always been very good, and I have always had a healthy respect for these "rocket ships" Maybe it's just a "one off" dud car. Both of you who have driven it came to the same conclusion. What a shame.

I love the look of the car and heard so many good things about them but was disappointed when I drove it.
jnr356 Posted 8October, 2012 Report Share Posted 8October, 2012 they WERE great cars,i used to love them alas age has caught up with them very expensive to maintain now, unless you can do the work yourself many parts NLA,including most moulded rubber hoses they are expensive to maintain whether you drive them regularly or rarely, shit just seems to go wrong with them like painting the harbour bridge by the time you get to the end it's time to start again hence the market value on them(i doubled my money on my old one ,sold it for 2k ) a good one should still go fairly hard though such a shame i really used to have a passion for the big landsharks
Airhead Posted 9October, 2012 Author Report Share Posted 9October, 2012 Thanks guys. I was hoping it wasn’t just me. Also took a (sorry for the swear word) BMW 735IL for a drive. Nice car. Lots of car for the money.
wasserkuhl Posted 11October, 2012 Report Share Posted 11October, 2012 Thanks guys. I was hoping it wasn’t just me. Also took a (sorry for the swear word) BMW 735IL for a drive. Nice car. Lots of car for the money. This era BMWs are alot of car for the Money. I drove a 928 S4 a year ago and it was a slug and I suspect the Trans had some terrible things lurking within as it had a bearing rumble. Rest of the car was great "One Careful Owner". When the seller refused a PPI from my preferred specialist I walked away. I'd have a 928 GTS anyday...................after a PPI.
