RTP Posted 18February, 2020 Report Share Posted 18February, 2020 Can anyone tell me how to tell if a Porsche badge is real or not? I picked up one at a garage sale - it looks real but these days the fakes look pretty real.
Niko Posted 18February, 2020 Report Share Posted 18February, 2020 Not sure if this helps at all. First badge is the rear off a 901 model. It was damaged on one of the studs as you can see, but that badge is original, I think. Haven't got a photo of the front of that 901 badge unfortunately The second and third photos are from my 2009 Cayman. very different than the earlier ones buy the looks, assuming mine was an original badge of course. RTP Posted 19February, 2020 Author Report Share Posted 19February, 2020 Thanks. After seeing your photos, I suspect mine is a fake. It obviously has never been installed on a vehicle and the studs are just a press fit - no clips.

It does have the same number as Niko's 901 Emblem 90155921020

Certainly looks more defined than the photo of the 901 I have there. not a bad replica if it is one.
Dreamr Posted 19February, 2020 Report Share Posted 19February, 2020 Don't know if this helps, but hey ... it won't hurt ... Niko
9er Posted 19February, 2020 Report Share Posted 19February, 2020 Early badges 1964-73 did not have a part number on the back and are called orange bar, and sell for $750 plus ,pictured below. I suggest any badge with a 901 part number is a repro. Niko
Niko Posted 19February, 2020 Report Share Posted 19February, 2020 Although this throws the badge amongst the pigeons a bit. Advertised for 911/912...The part number stamped on this one purported to be an original. Maybe the part number 901.559.210.20. is for a later model???? Says he purchased it new in the 80"s. and had stored it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-911-912-HOOD-BADGE-EXCELLENT-GENUINE-UNUSED-OEM-NOS-901-559-210-20-/273828292929
