pocketscience Posted 1September, 2013 Report Share Posted 1September, 2013 Can anyone suggest somewhere for a PPI in Sydney, other than Autohaus Hamilton? On the north side preferably. Porsche @ Willoughby any good? Cheers,
Stardust Posted 1September, 2013 Report Share Posted 1September, 2013 I did my PPI at one of the major indies, and a few very early services at other porsche houses as well. Everything went through with flying colours. So I thought my gearbox racket was normal for a car without carpets or insulation. No one picked up any problems until I got to PRTech, including the workshop who regularly maintained it and did the PPI (but there may be a reason for that ). PR Tech were the only guys to diagnose a bent side plate (and was it bent!), bad diff carrier bearings, poorly adjusted crown and pinion, o-rings where there shouldn't be o-rings, sealant where there shouldn't be sealant. Basically a mess! So I would recommend PRTech, but they ain't cheap. I haven't been to Buchanan's yet, but I hear they are very good too. Cheers. Porsche @ Willoughby any good? Cheers, Very happy to suggest Cavaco in Glebe. He gave me lots of advice for a couple of years, whilst I was looking for my first Porsche Been taking my 993 there since i bought it 3.5 years ago Carlos is a master Porsche mechanic and will always tell it straight (even if you don't want to hear it) cheers

I used Cavaco to do my PPI and was happy with the outcome. Pays to have a decent chat with him after the inspection is done as he will normally share some good insight on the car and will give you tips etc about what you buying. npvpositive Posted 5September, 2013 Report Share Posted 5September, 2013 If you use Carlos you should focus more on what he tells you than his written advice. Detailed written reports/invoices are not his strength. Definitely walk around the car with him because he will inevitably point out things that he might forget to tell you/write down otherwise. Personally I would go to Autohaus Hamilton or PR Tech for a PPI . . . money well spent. If it is an earlier car and you are worried about rust/paint then you may also want to get a PPI from a specialist panel beater like Zags.

pocketscience Posted 20September, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 20September, 2013 I bought my car from Autohaus, as opposed to getting a PPI there, but based on my experience I can't recommend them highly enough.
andrew911 Posted 4September, 2014 Report Share Posted 4September, 2014 How does Autohause compare with others for general mechanical work in terms of price ?, I know they are very good so is PRTech. I am looking for a good mechanic on the North Shore or not too far away for my 1986 Carrera 3.2. appreciate your advice
Flatout Posted 4September, 2014 Report Share Posted 4September, 2014 I live northside and take my 3.2 to Carlos at Cavaco. Although I work in the city and it's easy to drop it there before work in the morning (he opens around 6am). Very happy with him. Haven't used them, but only heard good things about Autohaus from guys that do go there. Either place though I think you'll be touching your toes when you get the bill, I know I have to. But for me worth it in knowing he's done it properly.
