TINGY Posted 5November, 2014 Report Share Posted 5November, 2014 On to Port Macquarie Oz, I am turning back, well I should be turning back, at either at Carson's Lookout or Walcha, depending on how much fun I'm having. Rest of them are staying o/night and returning the same way.

Oldmxnut Posted 27December, 2015 Report Share Posted 27December, 2015 Hi All, I was online looking for some recommended loops in SE Qld and saw this earlier thread. I travelled thunderbolt a couple of months (oct 15) ago. - Buckets way from twelve mile creek to Gloucester - nice scenery, road shape and curves nice but surface of road was below average. Wouldn't suit stone chip conscious people. Various roadworks didn't help and quite a few potholes. Quality of road would be 4/10 - thunderbolt Way - Better then buckets, but similar and starts to flow a bit more. It was middle of day / mid week when I went through so traffic was good. Although some logging trucks in the ranges. road quality 6/10- back on hwy from armidale to tenterfield, good quality road but more standard hwy driving and saw a few more police and a bit more traffic.- Tenterfield to Casino / BEST SECTION - Stayed Tenterfield overnight and run across to casino at day break. Beautiful morning and one of the best drives. Very quite mid week morning, saw about 2-3 cars. No road works, smoothish road and didn't see many potholes. Quality of road was 8/10 for a mountain road with flow of the road suiting a spirited drive but pleasingly not having to be that far away from speed limits to blow your licence.- mullumbimby / murwillimbah / numinbah valley - nice flow, a few towns and bit busier traffic even for mid week. A little bit narrow over the top but all in all not a bad drive. 7/10 road quality. All the best.
