Harvs11 Posted 14January, 2014 Report Share Posted 14January, 2014 Old idea! I remember the 0.049 model aero motor I had when I was a kid was ringless. Interesting to see if it gets past the virtual stage and actually works.

GC9911 Posted 14January, 2014 Report Share Posted 14January, 2014 Not sure I'll go ringless yet, old one is still working fine!
OZ930 Posted 14January, 2014 Report Share Posted 14January, 2014 I wonder how it would go with a turbo ? Would the pressure in be too great for the air system to maintain compression ?
Coastr Posted 15January, 2014 Report Share Posted 15January, 2014 Out of all the engine components, is the piston ring really that great a place to look for easy improvements? Not an engineer, but it would seem to me that the rings aren't a hug factor in friction,,especially when you start looking at camshafts and followers, plus all the engine ancillaries. I also don't agree that engine rings are a major source of heat in an engine...one look at the cooling fins on an air-cooled engine shows the heads where the bang happens is the major source of heat. I wish them well in their quest...but I don't quite get the massive improvement aspect the article makes out.
OZ930 Posted 15January, 2014 Report Share Posted 15January, 2014 …..and if this technology was added to say a crank less engine ? http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directory:Revetec_Cam-Drive_Engine
Aussie Alan 993 Posted 25February, 2014 Report Share Posted 25February, 2014 …..and if this technology was added to say a crank less engine ?http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directory:Revetec_Cam-Drive_Engine Ring less and crank less! It's electric. Now once they develop the refillable sugar battery that is tipped to be smaller and more powerful than lithium, that will change the way we power our cars. But if they make a retrofit kit for my car and it needed a rebuild, I'd consider putting ringless pistons in there. Cheers Alan
