webrest Posted 16February, 2014 Report Share Posted 16February, 2014 These two photos are sure to get a few spines twitching. This how they crash tested a 904 back in 1966. Painful to see an iconic car like this that is loved by so many being destroyed at such a young age for the good of the entire race. I'm sure it happened to many in Germany at the time. Brands and models of all different sizes and ages Dave
JustJames Posted 16February, 2014 Report Share Posted 16February, 2014 No different to the crash testing that will have happened to the Carrera GT or 918. It's less about destruction of the individual car, and more about part of the process of creating the model type (as you suggested).
Airhead Posted 17February, 2014 Report Share Posted 17February, 2014 Gee. How'd they get it to stand on its nose for that second pic?
Orion03 Posted 17February, 2014 Report Share Posted 17February, 2014 at least that had a real testing reason. Unlike this video.. which will make you cry... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qpvSCbovM0
JustJames Posted 17February, 2014 Report Share Posted 17February, 2014 Gee. How'd they get it to stand on its nose for that second pic? Achsly the pics are in reverse order. If you look at the bottom pic you can see the car flexing its bonnet in preparation for the upward leap.

I heard they were gunna call the 904 'The Frog' but then they remembered the connection to the French so decided not to.

Orion03 Posted 17February, 2014 Report Share Posted 17February, 2014 I think it did actually, engine was dead so the owner donated the car to be blown to bits by the gun club... they raised $$ from the people shooting the car.
Simonoz Posted 17February, 2014 Report Share Posted 17February, 2014 Not sure which I like better, the name Scholpp on the crane in the first photo, or the bloke in the jacket with the highly sophisticated trigger wire in the second. Great shots. I'll bet the car has been recreated somewhere in the world using the old VIN number, by some devious skunkworker. There's more of these 904's around now than ever before.
