Ahhh Farrrk - just broke my only ignition key to my vintage 912.

Anyone know if they can create a key from the ignition barrel?

Or anyone know what I can do?

Slightly concerned - Anyone know a lock smith in Victoria that can assist?

Murf, I know it's not quite the same, but I had an automotive locksmith make me a key for a beetle when we lost the only one we had. He banged a blank into the door lock, then hand filed the grooves into the blank based on the scratches that were left. It took him about 15 minutes to make us a perfect key, then made another from that. Used those two keys for years. Made me realise that if someone wants to get into your car, and they know what they're doing, there's not much that'll stop them.

This was in Brisbane, and many years ago, but someone will be able to sort it out for you. At the time, we just called around the automotive locksmiths.

No it cracked when I turned the key - must have been frail.

So i got it out - when I put it on the desk it broke.

I have a similar blank. Similar hoping to have a temp key cut.

Hope I can get one cut that will work until I am able to order the exact key.

Theres a place just off Bowen Bridge road in Newstead that still has the correct blanks to suit a 911, and they cut me a key from my broken one when i twisted it in my doorlock (i think it was soft with age too) i did this a few weeks after i got my car.

wasn't cheap but basically got me out of crap!

Send this Oz guy a pic and he will make a better one than the original. A true keysmith.

He did my 928 - and that's about the hardest key imagineable. At 1/2 the price of the specialists I rang in Vic and NSW who also wanted me to bring the car in  . Also , the key is guaranteed and if there is any problem he will cut another , no cost.

Old Porsches don't have boots. LOL.

Door key is different. Similar but different.

Strange indeed.

It's possible. If it's the same as the boot lock or door lock, they'll use that.

South Yarra cut one on a similar Porsche blank I had. Then supplied me with a Porsche silka blank for 912 / 911 to see it it fit. It did and the one they cut worked as well. Phew.

Buying up on original keys.

They ain't making them any longer.

So a good result. Thank goodness.
