JAX57 Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 Until Gen Z get into the the market and say who the hell was Steve McQueen ?I don't think the vast majority Gen Z will never get into the market of appreciative automobiles... their focus will be on Hyundai's and/or something from China ... Norm Posted 24October, 2015 Report Share Posted 24October, 2015 I disagree and think you would be surprised. A classic is a classic. a good design lasts a lifetime.
CarreraG50 Posted 10November, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 10November, 2015 The key to remember with this particular Porsche is that it wasn't used "in" the movie, nor was it owned directly by McQueen personally. Instead, this particular 911T was owned by McQueen's production company, CBS Solar Film Studios, and was "used by the crew during production" of Le Mans (however, it was never featured in the movie).Bought as part of a lot from Jo Siffert, this 911T eventually became the property of McQueen's mistress, Elga Andersen, after it was gifted to her by McQueen's production company at the end of the movie. Christie's had an estimated sales price of $275,375 to $385,525, which is probably part of the reason it didn't sell. While this is a beautiful '71 911T with some connections to McQueen, they aren't as strong as the ties he had to his '76 930 Turbo. Combine that with the fact that a similar Porsche sold for about half the low-end estimate at another auction this past March and those are the most likely reasons for a "no sale".
