Daniel Posted 14April, 2016 Report Share Posted 14April, 2016 So out of the blue my brakes got really stiff in my 2.5 986 and now when braking with pedal and engine braking (compression of rpm) my brake pedal doesn't come back up unless i pull it with my foot and brakes stay latched. Changed all my brake pads and rotors and no difference at all. What could it be?!
Harvs11 Posted 14April, 2016 Report Share Posted 14April, 2016 It could be a problem with your ABS module. Get it all checked out properly. Oh, and avoid driving it until it's fixed & safe again.
Apogee Posted 14April, 2016 Report Share Posted 14April, 2016 Have you checked your brake fluid, brake lines and master brake cylinder? Could be a hydraulics issue.
Daniel Posted 15April, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 15April, 2016 So i have vacuum in my brake booster but ive been told that it could be internal, i had a look online and TRW has brake boosters for the Porsches so i was thinking of getting one and hopefully fixes it! If not i must get a master cylinder as well. I will let you guys know how it goes down!
firstone Posted 15April, 2016 Report Share Posted 15April, 2016 Hmm, I had the clutch pedal go to the floor and wouldn't return without lifting it with my foot. It was the clutch master cylinder. How did you get on with the transmission?
Daniel Posted 18April, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 18April, 2016 The transmission went on fine! No problems when driving and no unknown noises or feelings (thank god)But i am going to give the brakes a flush and pray to god that it solves the problem so i can save some coin! Will keep you updated!
Daniel Posted 19April, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 So i just finished the brake flush, and same problem is happening. What could it be?
P-Kay Posted 19April, 2016 Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 To me it sounds like either a pressure loss or master cylinder. Either way, take it to either your local brake and clutch specialist (provided you trust them) or an independent close to you. Plenty to choose from in Melbourne! Airhead Posted 19April, 2016 Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 Try a pressure bleed.
Daniel Posted 24April, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 24April, 2016 Anyone know where i can get a brake booster from without spending more then $300?
Daniel Posted 13May, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 13May, 2016 Just an update, I have done a very cheap and easy fix!My booster had been exposed to water inside and that caused the booster to fill with water and rust out the spring inside.Spoke with Porsche Melb and they told me that all early model 986 had a recall with the waterproofing around the brake booster! And that is why my brake booster gave way.I changed my booster to a Audi B5 (1997) model booster because it is the exact same part and is a hell of alot cheaper!!
