You notice the lack of manual in the 991 GT3 RS?

I have noticed the lack of a manual in the 991 RS...I also ordered mine with the radio delete haha...Not sure I will love it, but I always find there are situations when I want manual and then when I don't...at least my golf GTI is manual so I can still move a stick at least.

Looks like a great car, so its consigned at Duttons?

Hi, yes it is a great car in my view...probably the biggest downside is that it's been driven. It was with them but they didn't have much luck so I'll hold onto it again and then perhaps try again closer to when my car is due in. Alternatively, a few different dealers have offered me $200k so if worse comes to worse I'll just take that route or trade-in.

This has been in the window at PCA for the past month...

Ultraviolot is a beautiful colour. More pastel than I imagined but looks great in any light.

That's just stunning, I've gone for a similar spec except my roll cage will be black and steel brakes. I'll have the same basic xenon headlights and the silver wheel/wing upright combo though. I love that it's a gloss/pastel finish, I feel like it's more true to historic Porsches...leave the bling metallic finishes to McLaren & Lambo

Just took the car out for the firs time in over a month today...god damn it's so good, really not sure if I should be selling it for a 991 anymore

Each iteration of the GT3 is better than the one before.  However, for my money the 1999 is the best if you want raw, immediate thrills with loads of communication.  The 04 is a step up again but not made in the Motorsport Department.  More polished, stronger all round and still has the dreaded rear bump steer which shows its road car roots.  The 07 (especially the RS) is a very tough drive.  Seen as the runt of the RS litter, I really like that it's got the Mk1 rawness but picks up on the drive ability front.  A Cup Car in a nice suit.  I'm very confident that the 991 RS will be more than I could want from a car and it's a thing that needs a PDK.  Manuals are fine if you get all misty eyed about that sort of thing but for rifle crack changes and the ability to focus fully on where the thing should be going, give me the PDK any time.

If you can, keep it and enjoy the comparison.

Why not?  We don't go around twice.

You must be really itching to get that RS on the track and really see what it's got. Christ, I'm sooooo envious--you've living the dream. Give us some photos.

Couldn't agree more re: the colour. I also prefer the basic xenon lights as they look more traditional! Is the plan to track this like you have your GT3?

That's true, I love manual on the road though, PDK will be great on track I hope...

Sure will do!

Yep definitely more traditional, plus 8k cheaper too haha...yeah it will see the track for sure, still need to wait a few months before it arrives though.

Skids,

I'm interested in hearing a bit more on how you use the PDK.

The following comment in Performance Forums recently peaked my interest about their use in a Targa Tasmania car:

"As for the shift mode, vast majority was spent in auto mode with an occasional override with the paddle to get the gear he wanted."

Full page of discussion about the car - 991 GT3 - and photos of car in full flight here:

So is that really the case for a Targa car?  Just select Sport Plus and occasional tweak of the paddles????

How do you use yours in circuit racing?

I've only used the PDK in a 991 Carrera S on the track and even in sport mode, I left it to its own devices on the downshift as it learned the pattern of throttle and brake (I was at Phillip Island) but used the paddles on corners like MG where you short shift into 3rd on exit to keep things tidy around T11.  The other thing about using the paddles is that it lets you get further into the limiter whereas the computer plays it a little more safe and upshifts at times when you really want to hold a gear between corners.

The other thing is that shifting mid corner is very smooth in a PDK (or sequential manual like a later model Cup Car) and doesn't upset the car even under big lateral loads,  T 12 onto the main straight at Phillip Island is a great example where you can esstially hold it flat before the apex and grab 5th before the end of the turn (if you're on it!).

I don't rally - I know I have a tendency to push the boundaries of grip and the road is no place to do that so discretion means I keep to the track.  That said, I think in most situations on road, the car will be smarter than the driver - if the driver is being sensible.

I get the GT3 RS in November and from what I've read, the thing will be a weapon.   I was testing at the Island in a 2011 Cup Car a couple of months back and a guy had one there and couldn't stop raving about how great the car was.  For some reason, he didn't take me up on my offer to really have a crack in it for him ...

I like those reflections oh wise one.. rare to get that

I've been driving the 07 GT3 RS for the last couple of days.  SENSATIONAL car and really enjoy mechanical side of the car.  Gearbox grumpy when it's cold, cage squeaking when approaching ramps on the angle, front wheel pawing the air at the same time.  It has the carbon brakes which are, putting it bluntly, ridiculous!  Firing it down Chapel Street and tipping it into Toorak Rd is not its natural environment.  Had to pull up fast for a fine young pedestrian (one would suggest I was copping a perv ,,,) and nearly head butted the effing windscreen.
