987.2 Front intake mesh.

I installed front intake mesh inserts today on my 987.2 Cayman.....

I purchased them from Custom car Grills and the quality of them is very good.

I thought I'd share some pics for those that may be a little apprehensive about the install.

1. I tied some string through the mesh to allow me to pull it back against the back of the opening once it was inserted.

2. I then masked up the opening to avoid scratching and fed the mesh through the opening.
You want the front side facing down when inserting.
You have to man handle it a bit to get it through.

3. Once it is in position, you then pull back on the string to hold it upright.
I then got some jack stands and tied the string around them and pulled them back away from the car so that the was tension on the mesh, thereby holding it against the back of the opening.

4. I then inserted two cable ties on the vertical slate ensuring that they were attached on the underside of the horizontal slates, so they can't be seen
I bent the ties so that when I fed them through, I was able to grab the end with needle nose pliers and pull it back through the mesh opening.

At this stage I have only secured the mesh by the two ties on the slates as the mesh has pressure on it that holds it in place on the outer ends.

I'll assess this to see if the wind resistance causes them to move or not.

Cheers,

Geoff.

Nice. After cleaning my 987.2 Boxster S last week end, I've been thinking it needs something like this.

Any chance you can post a pic of them secured with the cable ties?

Cheers

Excellent, thanks for going to all that trouble.

Looks like even an old bloke like me could even do that.

So the mesh is cut to size I take it?

Yes it is pre cut to size.

The mesh is metal and power coated black....as I said the quality is very good.

I too was a little apprehensive, but if I can do it, anyone can.....

Yeah that Link is incorrect. The one I posted up is the correct one.

I ordered the outer grills only, so US$29.99 was the cost.

They made a mistake with mine and sent me the full set, worth US$69.99.....so I've got mesh grills that I won't be using.

Cheers,

Geoff.

Guys,

Here are some pics of the cable ties...

I was laying flat on the ground to take this pic.

Again from ground level.

From a normal viewing position, they are invisible as they are hidden under the horizontal slates.

I used 2.5mm X 100mm cable ties. They were the thinnest I could find.

Cheers,

Geoff.

My package arrived today...they have done the same as they did with yours Geoff, sent me the whole set, for front and rear.

Great deal for $30.00.   plus postage of course.   I think I will only be using the two front vents though.

I will check out what the others will look like but probably not.

So in the end Geoff, it is just the two cable ties holding each grill?   And that's it?

Yes two is sufficient for each grill.

I took the car on a 3 day Snowy Driving Trip last week, going through all weather conditions from driving rain to cold winds

and the mesh never moved......

Cheers,

Geoff.

Vent mesh in.

Not the easiest of jobs, trying to get the pesky cable ties through can try an old bloke.

But job done.   Only downside is I have done my back whilst putting them in (old injury stirred up)

Thanks again Geoff for your DYI photos and instructions, they worked a treat.

A bit belated, but here are the rear grills.   Purely cosmetic, they don't do anything at all.

They are held in by one cable tie and then a dab of hot glue on the cut outs in the grill perimeters which match small tabs  on the car.

Definitely need to get the car off the ground to get in there with a little electric glue gun
