911, 1997 model 993, Carrera S, automatic, 80,000km

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm looking for some views on the A$ value of this car - I own half of it and am looking to establish a fair market value to sell my half to the other owner. Any views would be greatly appreciated. It's silver, is automatic but has the gear paddles on the steering wheel and is in great condition.

Many thanks in advance.

P.

Does Mrspetrov want to own the other half? :)

A couple of photos would help.

How leaky is the engine?

Service records? How would it fair having a PPI?

Is the interior a weird colour?

Are the paddles the standard Tip switches or something else?

The disposition of the other owner is going to be of critical importance as there are so few of these cars that actually change hands and the responses you'll get here will be just Forum opinion.

Maybe a safer way in terms of your ongoing relationship with the other party would to pay for a valuation from say CTS to allow yourself to be removed from the valuation exercise.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I'm looking to sell my half. The engine leaks a little. It was our mother's car, her service records are poor as she hardly drove the car and didn't get it serviced regularly. We just got it fully serviced at Porsche in Sydney (15k later...). I don't have photos to hand, the interior is dark dark blue (or is it black?). I assume it's the standard tip switches, we haven't had anything done to the car.

Im not after a pinpoint valuation, even something within a circa $20k range would be a start. Thanks again so much for your response.

P.

PS what's a CTS valuation?

CTS = Classic Throttle Shop, a specialist high end retailer in Sydney 02 2292 2036.

Every major city has resident Porsche shops that will give you a "value" but they will a) want to see the car and B) get it from you at basement rock bottom price .

To maximise your $$, some homework is in order......

My opinion for what it's worth:

Given your description, If it was a narrow body, you could expect $75 to $85k.  The market sees a premium with the S models so allow a bit more, say $10 to $20k.

Unfortunately the market has soften this year and being a Tip it limits the 993 specific purchaser pool somewhat ever though the Tips are still good to drive.  My NB sold within 3 months earlier this year.

Thanks very much - seems like the 1997 models command somewhat of a premium above and beyond the KMs difference. Is it that the 97 Carrera S are wide bodies? I apologise for my uninformed questions, I'm new to this. I really appreciate the help.

Problem is that many of those have been for sale a long long time so do not reflect the price of those actually changing hands.

Mr P,

If your car is a '97, it will be a Varioram so expect a premium for that too over the prices I gave above.

As I said some photos would help understand what you actually have.

True Peter, but gives an insight into how variable the used P car market is.... asking prices vary greatly from selling $$$ as we know :)

My 2 cents worth, keep it, share it, enjoy it :P but yes I do understand that other factors can come into play :)

Thanks Peter M. I only got a couple of photos (the odometer and the rear Carrera s sign) on me at the moment. I will get more once we have it back from the Porsche garage. I will post the odo shot but I'm not sure how to reduce the size of the photo on my iPhone! I'll work it out and post again in due course - cheers!

edit: worked out how to shrink pics. Odo and rear shown. Sorry for poor quality.

An S add value. The auto decreases value. The Varioram increases value, the lack of service books and little use decreases value.  $15k at Sydney porsche is not a great deal of money when talking about one of these which hasn't been driven much and is on need of catch up maintenance.

I guess $120,000

As you're in Sydney, I would definitely suggest talking to Classic Throttle Shop, they will know within 5% of what your car can actually sell for in the current market. Peter M has just had some good success dealing with them as have I, PM me if you want some details.

Not local, but an absolute gentleman is Rob Raymer of RSR Garage in Melbourne, I think very highly of him as do many other who have dealt with him, he is also a fountain of knowledge and most certainly has his finger on the pulse when it comes to the Porsche market.

cheers

I have a friend with pretty much the same 993 as yours.

He mentioned about a week ago that he thought it was now worth $125K & if it was non-Tip, probably $140K.

He thought it would take a while to sell, so he will probably hold onto it as he's a busy farmer with no time to waste.
