Dear Forum members,

I have a 2014 991 Caband have a major issue Re the door trim mouldings lifting and warping out of shape.
I have taken this to Porsche Melbourne and unfortunately the factory are more willing to repair as a factory ‘defect’ and will cost + $3-4k per door to repair/replace.

After researching on the web it appears to be a relatively common fault.
I have tried adhesive to no avail.
please refer to attached photograph.

Have any other members experienced such a fault whom would be able to provide a solution to repair?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thank you in advance.

Jump on the phone a ring some of the well respected independent Porsche specialists in Melbourne , you have a number of them down there with very good reputations  , they are more than likely aware of the issue and repaired other cars or could alternatively point you in the right direction to someone say like and Auto trimmer who could ....

I would talk to some of the local guys but also talk to consumer affairs and see what they have to say on the matter. It is a 6 year old car that cost 280-320K new they wouldnt look too favourably on the fact this has failed to no fault of your own. Their view is manufacturers warranty doesnt matter when assessing the case but rather what is the realistic expectation on a product like this.

This is a common fault in the 991 range and replacement door cars doesn't necessarily mean it wont happen again (not sure if the new cards suffer the same issue).  Also trying to repair the current ones with adhesive alone wont work as the current ones are warped.

Thank you Arthur, much appreciated!
That is exactly my sentiment.....the defect is clearly not ‘wear and tear’ and more so a design fault. I will pursue other channels in the interim....disappointing the Porsche factory are not obliging in assisting in any way after all the $$$ spent on purchasing and then later servicing/maintaining the beautiful cars at their authorised workshops. Many thanks again.

Australian consumer law says a product sold in Australia should be "fit for purpose for a reasonable life". Look it up and quote it in an email to Porsche. Paper trail. If you feel like you want to go that route. Get the emotion out of it and deal like the Don.

It won't be easy, as Porsche could argue that it has been wet at some stage. You may need to gather other customers proof of failure in the product. All a long process.

At a guess, I'd say the door card doesn't have enough fixing points to hold it from warping plus poor adhesive.

Easiest would be to have it repaired by a good upholsterer.

Reading the overseas forums, there is no doubt this is a common issue, particularly in the USA on 991 & 981 series models in the warmer states although I not heard of many instances in Australia.  A number of owners have received support from Porsche with replacements of the door cards for cars outside of the statutory warranty period. If the door cards are warped, is there any alternative to full replacement or does Porsche have a repair they can implement?

Dear Forum members,

Thank you for taking the time to respond and provide constructive feedback.

I have followed the common advice received and have re-raised this issue with Porsche Melbourne again.

The team at Porsche (Piero and Derek) fully understood the situation and escalated the issue with Porsche Australia.
Within the same day, Porsche Melbourne had a proposal to replace the defective door trims with new trims and have kindly contributed toward the discounted repair costs. This is a very kind gesture, especially considering the vehicle was not originally sold by their team (although the991 is serviced by their workshop).

A little disappointing on the side of Porsche Australia not to cover the entire replacement however special mention to Piero and Derek for their efforts and kind contribution towards the replacement costs.

Thanks again for the comments and responses.

Adam
