Uncle Posted 23September, 2013 Report Share Posted 23September, 2013 Anyone got any ideas on getting the nasty Brown glue off the rear firewall? I've gotten most of the foam off but the glue is just plain nasty!
StevepGT3 Posted 23September, 2013 Report Share Posted 23September, 2013 Lighter fluid is good for removing glue without damaging paint or plastics

GC9911 Posted 24September, 2013 Report Share Posted 24September, 2013 Prepsol should work, I use it to get adhesive signs off our company trucks after a couple of years. Most panel beaters have it in 20 Ltr drums, probably need about 1 Ltr for that job. Wipe it over a small area at a time then wipe/scrape it off, good luck Martin. Kelly Posted 24September, 2013 Report Share Posted 24September, 2013 Toluene is another (nasty) option.... and what you don't use you can throw in your fuel tank

Kelly Posted 24September, 2013 Report Share Posted 24September, 2013 Geez Kelly, you know all the good drugs! Lol, that knowledge came from stripping the interior of the 944 and having to make high octane fuel when I couldn't get race gas for the turbo easily. Xylene is even worse, albeit higher octane. Kelly Posted 24September, 2013 Report Share Posted 24September, 2013 I found that cleaning up the interior of the 944 involved a lot of solvents, abrasive wheels, heat guns, scrapers, time and un- lady like cursing. So it helps to focus on what the end game will be.
Uncle Posted 24September, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 24September, 2013 Well it laughed at prepsol, thinners, petrol, acetone, turps and metho. So with that lesson learnt I put the motor back in lol. It can wait till I am ready to paint the whole car. Kelly, only bad things will come from me having Toluene in the shed and a 915 gearbox.

Flatout Posted 9October, 2013 Report Share Posted 9October, 2013 Eucalyptus oil is another good one for removing glue, (although you're talking about a pretty solid glue) will also clear up your nose if it's blocked!
Russ Posted 9October, 2013 Report Share Posted 9October, 2013 did you try a heat gun on there to see if you can soften it up before you apply some sort of chemical? otherwise, maybe try yelling at it and see if it's easily intimidated
