Mike D'Silva Posted 13February, 2014 Report Share Posted 13February, 2014 just a question... is there a preference for the first Gen Cayman S tyre pressures? I have the 19inch Classic rims and tyres.. I'm nearly due for tyres and when I took my rear rims off the other day for a clean, I see that the centre third of the tread is much more worn that the outside thirds... This suggests too high pressure right? I am running 36psi in the rear... is this too high?
Niko Posted 13February, 2014 Report Share Posted 13February, 2014 Hi Mike, If the centre section of your tyres are worn down compared to either of the outside sections, it is normally a sign of over inflation. 36 wouldn't be too high IMO I run similar in the Boxster. However, my rears really do wear out a lot quicker than my fronts, but with relatively even wear across the face of the tyre tread 9Fan (Marky Mark) is very switched on with tyre info, hopefully he will pick this up and let you know. Anyone knowledgeable beings out there want to suggest re wear pattern or pressure?
9fan Posted 14February, 2014 Report Share Posted 14February, 2014 Would have said same as Niko. Call your Porsche centre and ask - info is free !
Russ Posted 14February, 2014 Report Share Posted 14February, 2014 are we talking 36 cold? If so that is probably overinflated (normally 4-5 psi between hot and cold) otherwise I think 32 cold/36 hot would be about right

Russ Posted 14February, 2014 Report Share Posted 14February, 2014 I run the same pressure in all 4. I'm on 16"s though
9fan Posted 15February, 2014 Report Share Posted 15February, 2014 I always run 2psi less in the rears because they work harder.
Russ Posted 15February, 2014 Report Share Posted 15February, 2014 I think that the front wheels do the same amount of work if not more with the steering..
Orion03 Posted 17February, 2014 Report Share Posted 17February, 2014 well if the center is worn then definitely too high.
Mike D'Silva Posted 18February, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 18February, 2014 well, according to the book, the cayman is meant to run 32 in the fronts and 37 in the rears... I am assuming that any tyre pressure should always be set when cold.
Orion03 Posted 18February, 2014 Report Share Posted 18February, 2014 yes to cold, and as for the book pressure, is that for 19 inch rims?
Euge Posted 12September, 2014 Report Share Posted 12September, 2014 Just a reference if you don't want to go looking for the book 19" is 32 F 37 R
BAFE Posted 11November, 2014 Report Share Posted 11November, 2014 I just checked my Boxster and i have the same sticker. I have my first track day at Sundown on Thursday. Its going to be a little warm 34 degrees here... Fronts 30 and rears 37? should I start at 28 and &34 maybe? The pressures should go up significantly shouldn't they? monty188 Posted 11November, 2014 Report Share Posted 11November, 2014 Hi bayf I like to run 34 in the front and 36 in the back as I find the boxster seems to favors under steer when its running 30 in the front. I had a track day at Sandown at the end of August ( very sunny and unseasonably warm.) and found this to be good on the day. I am on 17 inch rims. BAFE Posted 11November, 2014 Report Share Posted 11November, 2014 Hi Monty, That's great info thank you.. I'm running 18" rims does it make a difference?
monty188 Posted 12November, 2014 Report Share Posted 12November, 2014 No I don't think it is significant difference, I would definitely recommend upping the front Tyre pressures for the day. Sandown has some nice tight corners you will enjoy it.
BAFE Posted 12November, 2014 Report Share Posted 12November, 2014 Starting with cold pressures of 32 front and 34 rear will see what happens going to get to 34 tomorrow so I imagine the rack temp will be high. In reality the way I drive I don't think it will matter
