ByronBayChris Posted 11April, 2014 Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 Went for a spirited drive today for 2 hours or so in the Hinterland.... Lots.of narrow winding empty roads with unsigned speed limits. Thoroughly blasted the cobwebs. However just checked the car a couple of hours later and it seems to have wet itself between the front wheels. Googled, but found nothing yet. What should I be looking at first? ByronBayChris Posted 11April, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 Btw, Nsw has different theories on speed limits than Vic perhaps. This is a two way road with an 80k speed limit. Even I "suck it in" when passing another car, especially a truck
clutch-monkey Posted 11April, 2014 Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 brake fluid? from the overflow tube, if you got it hot powersteering fluid maybe, being a
ByronBayChris Posted 11April, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 It did appear watery with a slight oily feel (didn't taste it )
Quozl Posted 11April, 2014 Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 Washer bottle in mine was holed, front left corner but on a 79 SC not a 993, not sure where it is on a 993. Cheers Al
T-Man Posted 11April, 2014 Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 Power steering or brake fluids would be a little more obvious in their consistency and feel.Has the wet patch evaporated?Air con over flow.Water washer leak (unlikeky).
Stardust Posted 11April, 2014 Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 Brake fluid per C-Monkey would have been my guess. You may not even notice a significant fluid level change by the amount I see there.
Peter M Posted 11April, 2014 Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 Chris, I would check if the area under the spare wheel is wet first as the puddle appears to be under the drain holes for this area. There are 3 rubber drains tubes that "vent" this area and if you had anything in the boot area that leaked, including the brake master cylinder or battery, it would end up here. It's not likely to be the washer bottle as it is mounted high above the front of the LHS front wheel and is protected by the inner guard liner and would just puddle around that wheel if it was leaking. If you tried the headlight washers when you parked it and one of the hoses is disconnected, this would create a similar puddle. (I actually have the front bumper off mine at the moment to do a couple of jobs so I'm quite familiar with this part of a 993!)

Airhead Posted 11April, 2014 Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 Uncontrolled leakage tends to happen after a certain age. So I'm told.
Storm Posted 11April, 2014 Report Share Posted 11April, 2014 It did appear watery with a slight oily feel (didn't taste it ) Brake fluid tastes like Mexican, Power steering fluid tastes like Pepperoni P.S you really shouldnt try to taste it to prove me wrong though...... ByronBayChris Posted 15April, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 15April, 2014 Was only water, evaporated a few hours later. No difference in driving, so will monitor Thx for input

SteamWolf Posted 15April, 2014 Report Share Posted 15April, 2014 Did you have the a/c on? If so it is normal condensation runoff. Otherwise you have a leaking washer bottle
ByronBayChris Posted 16April, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 16April, 2014 Yes, aircon was on. Washer bottle still filled and no longer leaking. Was its first good run i a while so probably aircon.
Russ Posted 16April, 2014 Report Share Posted 16April, 2014 looks like your coolant has leaked out I'm guessing it's A/C drain from your evaporator, there's a hose poking out in front of the foot well that'll be where the water comes from (it's good news it's working and not disconnected in a way!) SteamWolf Posted 16April, 2014 Report Share Posted 16April, 2014 in that case it is safe to ignore. That's just normal operation.
Orion03 Posted 17April, 2014 Report Share Posted 17April, 2014 condensate from the AC is my bet if it's just water that evaporated off.
