SOLD: 2006 Cayman S - Manual

Recommended Posts

With a heavy heart, I’m selling my Aus delivered 2006 Cayman S, in Seal Grey with a 6 speed manual box (of course).

I’ve owned the car for just over two years, and it’s traveled 78,500 kms since January 2006. The Cayman is originally from Melbourne, I have receipts for work carried out by the previous owner with all work done at PCM when it was due.

The Good

Porsche Melbourne fitted a new clutch and flywheel (at 63,000kms), and new front brake discs / pads. Both jobs together cost in excess of $5,000.

Since my ownership, its been serviced at both Porsche Willoughby and Autohaus in Sydney The latest service (at the main dealer) was a 4 year major service, carried out just over 1,000kms ago. Brake fluid was also changed at this time.

Autohaus fitted Numeric shifter cables to the transmission. Better shift feel, and eliminates the factory plastic cable ends that can break, leaving you stuck in gear.

Carnewal exhaust (bought direct from Gert Carnewal) was fitted by Autohaus. and includes factory twin pipes (from a PSE).  Others here will testify to the sound. Think 1970’s aircooled howl. Auothaus liked it so much, they used my old exhaust to help create their in-house sports exhaust.

Steering wheel has been recovered in Napa leather from a UK specialist. Expensive, but a superb job.

A brand new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports has been fitted just over 1,000kms ago. The alloys are unmarked.

The navigation software has been updated by Porsche Willoughby (the first update in years to the old PCM1 system)

Seal Grey paint is in great condition and has been maintained by me using a variety of products not available from high-street auto stores. Dodo Juice wax, Chemical Guys sealant, non-acidic wheel cleaner etc. . Car is washed using a Snow Foam cannon / Karcher pressure washer, rather than ye olde bucket and sponge, which minimises scratches. It’s not chip free, but is honestly presented.

I bought a MoBridge Pro Bluetooth kit. Professionally installed. This allows your phone to work with the PCM and lets you stream music from it. A phone kit (mic) was fitted at the same time, along with a USB charger in the centre console. None of this was standard back in 2006 of course.

The Honest

The rear number plate surround (plastic) has a small crease which can more than likely be heated out. There is a paint chip in that same area where the car clearly touched something whilst reversing.

The interior on this vintage of Porsche (including 997.1’s) never won awards for its longevity. The soft plastic they used for the aircon buttons, radio controls, plastic door handle surrounds and the centre console are all prone to scratches, ring marks and the odd “sticky plastic” issue. My car has not escaped, but only the aircon buttons are unsightly. New buttons have been ordered.

If you want to chat, please PM and we'll arrange phone numbers.

Seriously, well thats not good news.

I've sat in this car and it's very, very nice, got an awesome exhaust note as well:D

Thanks Stephen. Nothing short of my dream car. I'm quietly hoping that it's one of those "For Sale" cars that sits there for months.By that time, I may not need to sell.

Sadly Mack, it is so. Let's see how generous my employer is at Christmas (on other words...yep, she has to go!)

OK, New Year is here, and it's time to move the Cayman on to its next caretaker. I've updated some of the details on the first page, and will post back on the weekend with some updated pics.

Car will be going on Carsales early next week. Please read the description on the first post and my summary below to see what you will get. I believe it compares very favourably with the other cars for sale at the moment.

Some highlights:

Full Porsche & Autohaus service history.

New clutch and flywheel at 63k kms

4 year major service done less than 2,000kms ago at Porsche Willoughby.

4 new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, fitted less than 2,000kms ago

Carnewal exhaust. Can't describe it. You'll have to listen to a standard M97, then compare.

Numeric shifter cables to tighten the shift action and eliminate the plastic cable ends that break, and leave you stranded.

PCM has been update by Porsche Willoughby to the latest software.

MoBridge Bluetooth kit which updates the ancient PCM to allow music streaming, calls and phone charging.

Steering wheel recovered in nappa leather, with stitching to match the interior.

Ah such a nice car... wish I was in a position to put an offer in.

I think your car won't last long once it's on Carsales, looking at what else is on the market. GLWS!

Thanks Coso, appreciated. I'm uploading the pics to Carsales as we speak. Not the most pleasant of feelings. It would be nice if it goes to a enthusiast owner. The average time to shift one seems to be a couple of months, so it's not all over yet!.

Oh no!! That was supposed to take many months..... hopefully something finds it way to replace real soon :) (must have been too cheap ;) )

Cheers Adam. Tell me about it!. That nagging doubt when the prospect's eyes light up after the test drive!. Is this what happens in the 911 world when the price mysteriously goes up by $10k?
