"“Without the Type 64, there would be no Porsche 356, no 550, no 911,” says Marcus Görig, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby’s."

There would of course be 924s, 944s and 928s :D

That'll probably end up being one of the most expensive Porsches ever sold I reckon. $5 Jerry Seinfeld or Jay Leno goes after it

The Count Rossi 917 (917-030) changed hands last year for a record figure, I don't think this will get anywhere near that but should get a big number result.

I'd be surprised if it is less than 30m. I would have thought over 30m based on;

1. One of a kind

2. Built by Ferdinand

3. Owned by Ferry

4. So rarely traded

There are going to be some very fat wallets battling it out to add that to the stable.

Don’t think jay leno is in for big $$ collector stuff.  I’m guessing he’d like it but not at those high costs.  You hear him complaining his f1 is worth so much as he likes to drive his stuff.    Don’t know about Seinfeld or how deep his pockets are.  The buyer (if not Porsche) is likely to stay quiet.

Jerry is a billionaire so I don't think coin is a huge concern - although recently (last couple of years) hes been offloading P cars so it may not be of interest.

He seems to like the really rare cars like his Gmund/550/RSK etc etc. I do hope he gets it, as it will probably be driven...

I agree Porsche is more than likely going to purchase the car ...

If they don't , they will face a "please explain"  from me and many others.
Far more important than chucking billions of moneys at LMP1

or billions into E1

Yes it would be nice if it was on display in the museum and also part of the rolling museum and turn some laps at historic events like other legendary P cars

It might turn out to be a bidding war between the Stuttgart & Wolfsburg curators , as the car is "not a proper Porsche",  but a VW in wolf's clothing

I was going to reply with - he's not worth *that* much but thought I would check first, and well, yes estimates put him at $950m, which is close enough I guess.

Maybe he is a buyer then.  Or maybe everyone will just let it go to porsche.  Fun to watch.

Checked Jay Leno while I was at it - they reckon he has $400m.  Classic he still gets around in denim shirts and jeans.  I'm now his no 1 fanboi.
