Shedpest Posted 16February, 2021 Report Posted 16February, 2021 Sorry then. I like mine organic, freshly pumped from the Burgan Oilfields in the South-East of Kuwait, then refined by 20 year old semi clad virgins. LeeM and tomo 2 Quote
tomo Posted 16February, 2021 Author Report Posted 16February, 2021 Sounds good no wonder you go for the organic Quote
Peter M Posted 16February, 2021 Report Posted 16February, 2021 Tomo, I assume by your reference to "organic" you mean what is commonly known as "mineral"? I think you would be hard pressed to find a mineral oil or even a semi synthetic blend that meets the viscosity and the other specified category/classifications for your 996 so the answer has to be synthetic. tomo 1 Quote
Rob Posted 17February, 2021 Report Posted 17February, 2021 Good point Peter, they're all organic compounds of varying length carbon-hydrogen molecules. Synthetics have more tightly controlled chain lengths, minerals are more widely dispersed. Peter M and tomo 2 Quote
911CSR Posted 17February, 2021 Report Posted 17February, 2021 I have recently been using Liqui Moly 5W-40 Moly-Gen. Previously Royal Purple 10W-40 XPR or HPS, Millers Nanodrive CFS 10w40. Also add Tungsten Disulfide (WS2) nano-powder as an addition lubricant. tomo 1 Quote
Stephen Tinker Posted 17February, 2021 Report Posted 17February, 2021 Where did you buy the Millers Nanodrive - the last time I enquired, Millers were not supplying to Australia...? Quote
911CSR Posted 18February, 2021 Report Posted 18February, 2021 Opie Oils UK. Sent to friend and they sent over...IIRC there is a guy in NZ selling it... Quote
Merv Posted 18February, 2021 Report Posted 18February, 2021 Mobil 1 in the 996 and LiquiMoly 10-W-60 (German, but available thru Repco) in the AC 3.2 Carrera, as recommended now by Porsche because of the higher temps they can reach in summer. tomo 1 Quote
Peter M Posted 18February, 2021 Report Posted 18February, 2021 Are you guys trying to solve a problem......that doesn't really exist? Fishcop, tomo and Rob 3 Quote
tomo Posted 18February, 2021 Author Report Posted 18February, 2021 I only asked the question as there was no referral in my sevice records if they used synth or organic oils, As I want to do an oil change cheers no secret agenda Peter M and Rob 1 1 Quote

Oil is like peoples preference for difference beers or Coke vs Pepsi...For me, I don;t like Mobil 1 as I've had issues with it with other cars (not this 996 but my old 996 turbo and track/weekend cars) when temps get on the high side or when used for extended running periods (long hwy journeys). On engine inspection, bearing wear was really high, hence the switch to Liqui Moly. But they seem to change the additive package country by country etc. so its really a personal preference / experience thing. tomo 1 Quote

Track use on any car is a new ballpark. On the air-cooled cars such as my 3.2 I use the recommended LiquMoly10W60 because of its higher temp rating (the "60"). I will probably switch the 996TT to LiquiMoly also at its next change. 911CSR 1 Quote
