968 bought in Australia or overseas (UK)

Recommended Posts

This one was one of the weirdest experiences I’ve had in the auction world ( baring in mind I buy from auctions houses almost monthly and consult for several of the big ones so I’ve seen a lot of bizarre things over the years ) , small auction. house , huge overwhelming sale I think and they confused themselves … suspect it’ll pop back up at a dealers

I had sent someone to check it out and it was cosmetically In need of a bumper paint , ice blast and a service but was ok otherwise good for a tassie blast 😜.. high Km but well looked after , apparently drove nice , heads done , up to date on cams / belts - m030 upgrades , correct pattern seats etc

I actually won the bidding on this , they knocked it down as sold , marked it as sold on the website , and I sat patiently waiting for my invoice , only to to be told they’d had an offer from someone else for a higher ( £500 more ) AFTER the sale …. And would I like to up my bid …. I declined on principal .

can’t get that bloody headlining lot  db5 out of my mind, failed to sell , killer colour combo ..

Will be interesting to see where the U.K. delivered red CS in the current Shannon’s auction finally lands, I had a good look at it earlier this week, quite the history folder. I assume (but stand to be corrected) that it’s the same red CS mentioned by @Foibles previously.

That car has been on sale for a while the owner hangs out on the forum. To me it looks great but I’m guessing the uk connection hurts it over here.

Yes, it has been for sale for a long time. Guide price is a fair bit lower than where I last saw it for sale, but it could make a good drivers car. It’s no show car that’s for sure, however it has been complied and has a fair number of new parts by the looks of it.

Yes, same car. My car as it happens.

Yes, it's only the UK heritage which hurts the car.

Almost 2 years. Nothing wrong with the car However.

It has a reserve, and I'm not flexible. In my biased opinion it's a screaming bargain

I'm happy to debate your thoughts on 'no show car'. It was on display at Shepparton Motor Museum for several months....I think the curator was more than happy to have a rare car in great condition on display. It's been poured over by PCM, by my indi mechanic, by the ADR engineer, and by radiator specialists whilst repairing various hoses and flushing etc. All gave very positive feedback. However, if you mean 'concourse' I'll concede it certainly isn't.  I'm not even sure if the aus delivered examples asking 160k would deserve this description.... If parties are interested, get in and check it out.

There’s no debate needed, it’s your car, you know it well, I’m basing my view on having inspected it for some time at Shannon’s last week and having had the guy give me the (very comprehensive) history folder to go through, so I’ve read the PCM document you mention. I’m also from the U.K. so have done the research there as well. The V5 in the folder tells me it’s a 10 owner car, nothing wrong with that.

It’s been for sale for almost 2 years you say, so not long after it arrived here based on the history and my research. If as you say it’s not the car’s fault, then the fault is with the asking price, otherwise it would’ve sold. That’s simple. All cars have a buyers value, sadly that all too often doesn’t meet the sellers value. This forum and the internet as a whole is full of unrealistic sellers and buyers.

Being displayed in a museum is no guarantee of condition. It’s a rare car and therefore has an interest point. From a few feet away it looks great.

As I say above, this is all my opinion based on actually having inspected the car and done some research into its history (I always research as best I can if I’m interested). For me, it’s a driver car (ie the perfect type of car), it isn’t a show car. It’s not particularly low mileage and it’s seen paint across most of it, which is typical of any car that age and particularly ones from back home. Being red, it shows it more than most colours, I can see where *I* think it’s had paint, but that’s up to other interested parties to ascertain for themselves. My opinion is just as valid as yours, but they may differ. My opinion is that to be mint, it needs a repaint. Hence for me, it’s a drivers car where chips and scratches don’t detract from using it. My own 911 is such a car, hence I don’t worry about using it.

As it’s now at auction, the market will dictate its value. Whether that meets your reserve is in the lap of the internet, I hope for you it does.
