911virgin Posted 23August, 2023 Report Share Posted 23August, 2023 hi all if one is storing a car for 10 years without driving it or starting it up, what problems are expected : engine, tyres etc on restarting the car in 10 years? obviously, it would be taken to a good mechanic/porsche specialist to get it all road ready etc also, anyone know any reputable and good long term storage options in Melb? any advices appreciated! thanks
Tips Posted 24August, 2023 Report Share Posted 24August, 2023 I would strongly recommend having someone you trust maintain the car and drive it occasionally if it’s possible. I have done this for friends all be it they have only stored 6-12 months.
911virgin Posted 25August, 2023 Author Report Share Posted 25August, 2023 Cheers and thanks Tips, it's really not good for the overall health of cars not to be driven for years is it. Just could be an issue of lack of available garage space etc but wanting to get another car... Tips
MFX Posted 25August, 2023 Report Share Posted 25August, 2023 Definitely drain the fuel. That will be a nasty mess after 10 years. Tyres will need to be replaced by then as they will be rock hard (should never drive on 10 year old tyres) so I wouldn't worry too much about them. Mostly just keep it dry and hopefully away from rodents.
Peter M Posted 25August, 2023 Report Share Posted 25August, 2023 Surely you will get parole before the full 10 years is up? Given the likely hassle and cost of storing a car that long, I'd sell it now, put the funds into a Vanguard ETF and buy what I want later. OZ930 Posted 28August, 2023 Report Share Posted 28August, 2023 Remove the battery. A friend stores his car at a museum, on display. TwoHeadsTas
