I've driven the car and she is great..

Service was done by a Peter Fitzgerald who runs a specialist Porsche service centre here in Melbourne?

Anyone here know Peter ?

If Peter is here, what do you think of the car?

From what I know of Peter he is a good guy and knows his stuff. He has been around for many years setting up some of the best cars, definitely one of the top guys here in Melb (or aus for that matter).

Good, I am waiting for funds to clear from the Sale of my Elise... then I'll be in a position to act.

At the moment I am suffering from indecision from over analysis.......

Might drop Peter an email and see if he remembers the car.

Now another PPI question..

Do I have to put a deposit on the car before arranging a PPI? or is it more common to do a PPI before any cash changes hands?

PPI Prior to even negotiating, your PPI might finds some points to negotiate on.

If I was the seller, I would expect a deposit - refundable if you decide not to purchase.

Yeah lorbek want's $5K deposit from me before the PPI.....

But if the PPI throws up some iffy things, I could use that to negotiate.

But Lorbek did say they'll just fix anything the PPI brings up..

Sigh I am suffering Indecision through Over Analysis.....

but I also need $ to clear from the sale of Elise.

Arrgghhh.... need to find a deep hole and not think for a while.

In that instance, see if you can reach an agreeable price, lay down the $$$ and arrange the PPI if your happy with the car.

All you really want is a car that is in good health, if they are offering to remedy any pressing matters then there is nothing wrong with that.

You are not going to beat them up on normal wear n tear cosmetic stuff as it is a used car, but if it needs new brakes, you sure as hell don't want to be paying for those in your first week of ownership when you get an RWC to transfer the ownership!

Hope that helps?

I do think $5k is a little steep for a deposit.. I've put down a lot less for a lot more.

I would also be asking who will be doing the repairs if required. Lorbek are not a 'Porsche' specialist dealer nor service centre - be cautious.

well they use Autoart .. and I am happy for Autoart to do the PPI, so I am assuming that Autoart will do any work that may come up.

Let us know how you go banging heads on the negotiating table!~

How does good old Srecko intend to fix a less than perfect panel repair for example if that's what's uncovered by the PPI? I wouldn't be paying a cent until a PPI is done. The fact you're getting a PPI says to him that you're serious about buying it. That should be enough I would have thought. Taking $5,000 off you just ties you in no matter what the PPI result is. What if there's a list a mile long of easy to fix things? Even though Srecko says he'll fix them, you might question whether you want a car that's been neglected by the previous owner.

That's just me but I don't trust dealers. Had too many not so good experiences.

(Disclaimer: This does not apply to our good friends at Autohaus Hamiltons)

$5k seems on the large side...very large side.

Contract should be subject to PPI (at least), if your not happy you should be able to walk away and get your deposit returned.  Or get the remedial work done at a shop of your choosing.   Or negotiate the price down and get the remedial work done yourself.
