Harold996tt Posted 25December, 2013 Report Share Posted 25December, 2013 Given that I work in Sngapore, my 993 usually only gets a work out whenever I return to Perth for my sanity breaks. These breaks can come about every couple of months. However, the last few trips back have been taken up by time driving my little old MX5 as I have gradually been restoring it (you have to love this little ladies car... It truly is a wonderful machine!). Ok so this isn't an MX5 forum, but heck I can't stop sharing the love on that car.... But ok back to all things Porsche.... Any way given that yesterday was Christmas, I figured it would be time to really treat the old flat six, so I went to pick it up. Taking it out again after so many months felt like unwrapping my Christmas present early... Even after close to 10 years of owning this 911 (longest car I have ever held onto)! Unwrapping the old bird.... Ahhhh that familiar smell that only a real pre water cooled 911 emanates from its leather and plastics... Getting the battery connected.... Fingers crossed that it starts up... (Well I'm pretty sure it will as it has done so over the last 10 years of stupidly infrequent use)... MX5 goes into storage (both my cars are kept off site as the place in Perth does not have sufficient storage for my two cars given i stay at my parents whenever in Perth as my place in Perth is rented out)... Harold996tt Posted 25December, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 25December, 2013 A quick trip to the petrol station for the weeks fuel requirements... Then I hit the streets where I see a lovely yellow 993 in the opposite direction. Sadly didn't manage to get a picture... Will post more pics as the next two weeks progresses (assuming I don't go back to the Mx5... Darn this weather is good!) A wonderful Boxing Day and a great and safe new year to all.... Cheers, Harold

Good luck getting back into the 993. Have to say that I will never sell either the miata or the 993 so long as I can afford not to. Its something about these two cars that make me want to keep them both for a very very long time.

Airhead Posted 26December, 2013 Report Share Posted 26December, 2013 Ahhhh that familiar smell that only a real pre water cooled 911 emanates from its leather and plastics... So leather and plastic in a water cooled smells different?
clutch-monkey Posted 26December, 2013 Report Share Posted 26December, 2013 So leather and plastic in a water cooled smells different? possibly- but only because it isn't imbued with petrol and oil fumes that the aircooled cars like to give off haha
Kelly Posted 26December, 2013 Report Share Posted 26December, 2013 We loved our little red MX5, especially in the snow... it was a hoot. It didn't look as tricked up as your interior though, that's very nice.

Don't get me wrong... I have owned a 996 Turbo and a 997 GT3RS. Both were great cars but both sure didn't smell the same inside that any of my air cooled cars did... Coastr Posted 26December, 2013 Report Share Posted 26December, 2013 Is the mx5 one of those special editions? I remember when they released a British racing green/ tan special edition back in the day and thought at the time 'that will become a classic'

Couldn't afford one at the time and made do with a standard edition MX5 back in 1991 but always promised myself I would buy one when I could afford to... It took longer than expected hahaha. withers Posted 27December, 2013 Report Share Posted 27December, 2013 This is the best looking NA MX-5 interior I have ever seen - what a beauty! Goes without saying, the 993 is epic but damn, that MX-5 is gorgeous! If life threw a financial curve ball - I'd find myself back in a MX-5 in a heartbeat Enjoy your time back home

If life threw a financial curve ball - I'd find myself back in a MX-5 in a heartbeat Enjoy your time back home Thanks so much for the compliment amanda. The mx5 has been a labor of love as I have gradually been collecting parts off the internet to get the interior to where I want it. Im treating this little car as the equivalent of a singer 911, making it my interpretation of what I envision as the perfect NA miata. Still a work in progress but truly the most satisfying car I have ever owned and driven.
withers Posted 27December, 2013 Report Share Posted 27December, 2013 Good for you Harold! It's a little ripper. I think if I ever looked for a NA, I'd try finding a Clubman or a Malibu Gold. Something also rare and unique.

My first Mx5 back in 1993 was a silver stone silver clubman (actually my first proper sports car)! Yep agree with everyone else both those cars are sensational, the MX something else again. you are obviously a perfectionist and I love your work.. Niko, thanks very much mate. Never thought I would find this much love for the older gen Mx5s on a Porsche forum!
