Eddy Posted 17February, 2015 Report Share Posted 17February, 2015 HELP. In May my car warranty will be expired. PCM asked me extend the warranty with another year at the cost $1800. Please give me some advise
turboT Posted 17February, 2015 Report Share Posted 17February, 2015 sounds expensive, but I guess Official Porsche dealerships are the only ones that can extend warranties, so without competition they can charge what they want. However I extended the warranty on my 2010 turbo last year. From memory it was just over $2000
Steiny Posted 17February, 2015 Report Share Posted 17February, 2015 It was generally $2k a year to extend warranty through Porsche for my 05 911. Cheap insurance really. I had some claims.
Mike737 Posted 17February, 2015 Report Share Posted 17February, 2015 How's it running? Is everything serviced and up to date? Preventative maintenance done?
Eddy Posted 17February, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 17February, 2015 Always PCM service and on schedules. I bought 2nd hand from PCM. In 13 months I only drove approx 4000km and had emerengy transmittion sensor and battery changed.
edgy Posted 18February, 2015 Report Share Posted 18February, 2015 PDK I noticed... I would definitely take it out. Don't get me wrong, I think when the cars hit about 10 years of age there will be cheaper repair methods out... just not now. My 2012 Audi is up at the end of this year its a DCT trans too... I will extend, it scares me to think of the potential repair cost on those transmissions.
withers Posted 19February, 2015 Report Share Posted 19February, 2015 It's cheap insurance Eddy. I would totally take it out. Peace of mind even! You can spend $1800 on a Porsche ( ha or a MINI for that matter) very easily.
Euge Posted 19February, 2015 Report Share Posted 19February, 2015 From memory, I think you have to continue the warranty as a process, which mean you can't stop it for a year and sign up again the year after. Or you can but it might cost you more for an assessment to do that and everything has to be in order (double check) It could also help with resale further down the track but really, it's one of those things like life insurance, they tend to make the money on it when you're younger (new car), risker for the insurer as it gets older

And yes Eddy - as mentioned in the quote, this will help with any future resale should you put the car on the market. I say go for it again. Eddy Posted 15May, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 15May, 2015 Today when I pick up my car from PCM after annual servies, I ask to extent my warranty for another year. The answer is service department told me my car have to go back to service department and inspect again. I told him my car just finished services here and why need inspect again? They told me my car have to be checked number of points before let me extent another year. I am really don't understand why they need inspect again after services. ByronBayChris Posted 16May, 2015 Report Share Posted 16May, 2015 Sounds like a service just replaces the bits listed in their book, with and regard for condition of the car

Exactly the same happened to me, but the second service is part of the warrantee so no extra cost. Next time just get the car serviced when the warrantee is due. Saves losing the car for that extra day
