SteamWolf Posted 13May, 2015 Report Share Posted 13May, 2015 The whole IMS topic has me curious. When you change them out, can you please send me the old one? Happy to pay postage. Prefer ones that haven't actually failed yet.

Simonk Posted 13May, 2015 Report Share Posted 13May, 2015 Here's a photo of mine. The metal shavings suggest it didn't have much longer to live. Not sure if I still have it or not. I can have a look if you like? IMG_2533 by Simon Kovac, on Flickr

IAM_911 Posted 13May, 2015 Report Share Posted 13May, 2015 I dissected mine after 73kms. Had only engine oil inside with a bit more play than a new one. Plane on changing again when I do the clutch. The way its going it will be on 2020. Where would you like me to send it?

Russ Posted 13May, 2015 Report Share Posted 13May, 2015 I'll see what I can dig up for you Jim, otherwise I'll just get them to keep any they pull out that owners don't want back
SteamWolf Posted 14May, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 14May, 2015 Russ, that'd be awesome. It'd be good to get a decent sample size. Can you get them to write how many K's are on them if possible? From what I understand the IMS replacement options work well. But there's so much speculation around the root cause it's crazy. I'd like a "once and for all" answer. Stew F Posted 18May, 2015 Report Share Posted 18May, 2015 What type of bearing is it? Is it just a ball bearing? Does it have a 6xxx number on it? One of the causes of the failure, from what I've read, is that engine oil gets into the bearing and washes out the original lubricant. The bearing may then not be capable of the duty it gets with engine oil acting as the lubricant.
