Blue964 Posted 7July, 2015 Report Share Posted 7July, 2015 Living on the wrong side of the harbour (inner west) I have been in search of a specialist Porsche workshop that is more local and one that offers a bit more of a personalized service. Today I finally got around to dropping in to Cavaco Motors in Glebe. I have heard good things about Cavaco but never dropped in there to talk P-cars. Dave and his father (Carlos) are absolutely passionate about air cooled 911's and they have an amazing knowledge of these cars. Carlos drives a very cool SC. They have some very tasty work going on there at the moment and it was great to see a complete restoration of a 70 something 911S and a complete engine re-built for a gorgeous Aust delivered 930 (I wonder if these owners are on PFA?). I was at Cavaco to talk all things 964 and was blown away by Dave's knowledge. They are very much P-car purists. My 964 is booked in for a complete brake upgrade and some suspension work. So if you are looking for a workshop to take care of your air cooled P-car and you live on the wrong side of the harbour it might be worth your while checking out Cavaco. Davion Posted 7October, 2015 Report Share Posted 7October, 2015 +1 to Cavaco. Had an issue with some pipe clunking sounds from the engine bay. Called and sent it in pretty much next day, turns out was the water pump that needed replacing. Was ready in a few hours. Added bonus is that its fairly near to my place of work. JAX57 Posted 14October, 2015 Report Share Posted 14October, 2015 Sorry guys I didn't have a good experience with Cavaco. My SC had starting problems when hot. I thought it might have been vapour lock. So I brought my car in. They changed the fuel pump and retuned the fuel flow and generally checked out the car. The next morning I wanted to head out to the Newcastle Porsche meet and got a very very loud bang! The airbox blew up.I rang up and got the comment perhaps your relieve valve is faulty. My car doesn't have a relieve valve I replied. I thought you would have noticed this when doing the previous work? Anyway I had the car transported back to them on a flatbed truck and they replaced the broken airbox with a second hand one but they said the whole engine had to come out to do this. All in all it was over $2K and they were very arrogant and cocky about the whole thing. So for me a Big Thumbs Down. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ronde Posted 8August, 2018 Report Share Posted 8August, 2018 JAX57 - a mechanic wouldn't know if you had a relief valve in your airbox simply by working on your car - unless they were changing the air filter - and that doesn't happen often - 30,000 kms I think. The relief valve is a requisite addition to any SC. Without one it's only a matter of time before your airbox blows up from a backfire. When I bought my SC it was one of the first things I check - it the pop off valve had been installed. Hard to blame the mechanic for this one. But I reckon it's a question they would be worth asking any incoming sc owner - have you got a relief/pop off valve installed? Hope the car running better now.
