Arnage Posted 15August, 2015 Report Share Posted 15August, 2015 When all air cooled 911's have dried up or are just out of most people's reach, then it's a no brainer & "Hobsons choice" to look at 996 even though its possibly a bit young to be a classic it still has the classic 911 silhouette. This is exactly what has driven up the popularity in IB cars because long hoods became too expensive & difficult to find for most buyers, but with an IB your still getting a "911".So if you desire the iconic 911 name, shape, performance, history, brand association etc etc then a 996 will become popular & then prices will firstly flat line & then as with IB's start to rise, probably not the same steep curve we see now. This all assumes that the next gen of buyer is as enthusiastic as we see here on this forum. Not sure about Boxster regarding the future classic question, however for someone wanting a great sports car from a premium manufacturer, then they are superb value. Mike737 Posted 15August, 2015 Report Share Posted 15August, 2015 I wonder out of the manufactured cars have been wrecked, parted, blown IMS/engine or been extremely abused into something else. Not to mention LS swapped.

withers Posted 16August, 2015 Report Share Posted 16August, 2015 I read that Porsche mean 'classic' as in OLD. ie 10 years or older means 'classic' not classic in the sense of iconic and classic like a 356 for example!
Coastr Posted 16August, 2015 Report Share Posted 16August, 2015 I thought the rules were that 30 years old was the cutoff for a classic? Or at least 25.10 years old is just an old car at the peak of its depreciation losses. That's when they stop appearing in the pricing books and are considered outdated by their manufacturer. If you bring one into the dealer you start getting sympathetic looks. It's also the point that all the plastics crumble if you mention the part by name. tazzieman Posted 16August, 2015 Report Share Posted 16August, 2015 In Germany , a true classic is > 30 years old - "Oldtimer" , and cars 20-30 years are known as "Youngtimers" = earning their stripes to being oldtimers one day.Oldtimers enjoy tax concessions, the true pensioners in the car world.
