I should buy that, see Les Collins for a stonking NA engine and buy up the Datsport catalogue. GUT Posted 6September, 2015 Report Share Posted 6September, 2015 Love the Datto 1600 - closest I've come to having one was when 'DATMAD' somehow lost it on a very straight road and ran through my fence back in the early 90's. It's pretty much rust free (unlike every other Mk2 I've ever welded back together) and the plan is to do it as a Mexico replica in either the original yellow or possibly signal orange. Building it up with a mate to share it in the future, already got a couple of 2 litre pintos to build into something interesting as a starter, with the intention to drop a zetec or Duratec in further down the line.Mate wants to put tarmac arches on it, so far I've resisted as I hate cutting out perfectly solid standard arches ! Had it been rusty there already I'd say go for it, same as we did with all the family rally cars when I was a kid but something in me can't bring myself to take the cutter to perfect arches !! That's when my future wife realised she had partnered up with a nutter. One lap of the block with Webers snuffling and exhaust barking and she vowed never to ride in it again. Pretty much has avoided every car I've had since (except my daily driver). my ratty 1600 track car with 13B Bridgeport was her least favourite - loud anti social pig of a thing.
