I'm absolutely loving the Merc! A SLR 5000 isn't really my thing but you can pick up a standard Torana for relatively cheap and some may say that the SLR was one of the first  factory built Magnus/RWB style cars on Aussie roads.

If I apply the count back rule , i.e no appreciation I reckon this just nudges in under the budget .. It could do with a few more stickers but ….

And its actually for sale today but has been given the deadly hotrod curse by the Aston Afficionados as a monster but I love it , no one wants it , i have been Trying to get it for a cheap price but they wont have it

Whats a car without a nice power buldge ..I think thats how you spell it I cant remember that definately was an 80s thing BULDGE

Heck, even an old 808/RX3 would be an ideal candidate. I had one; they were a stack of fun. Sadly, you'll most likely pay about $5k-10k for a 808 and double or triple for an RX3.  A Datsun 240K coupe or sedan would also make an awesome build, but they too are demanding big $, more so than some Porsches’, mainly because of their popularity in Saudi Arabia/Kuwait.

X pack RS2000 was my dream car as a young fella.

these & other early RS & Lotus examples are expensive propositions.

There was a LHD BDA Mk1 wide arch Escort on Carsales a few months ago was on for just under $100k was not on long.

I owned a 105 GTV 20 years ago (admittedly when money was tighter & restoration was more piecemeal). Beautiful car, piece of junk.  Spent more time broken down than on the road.  Cost me a fortune.  Only car I have ever really done my arse on.  I'd run a mile unless you can really throw some dollars at it.  I also owned a 260Z (as I couldn't find a 240 I liked at the time)  That would be my choice based on my own experiences.  I always wanted one of these.  Probably same as an Alfa (or worse).

I owned this one for just on 30 years and 100 + thousand MILES, the only mechanical issues in all that time were 2nd gear synchro, 1 alternator and 1 clutch slave cylinder, very reliable mechanically, however I had to do two bare metal resto`s and it was looking like a third was on its way

Datsun 1600

E30 BMW

Or one I haven't seen in a long time

Mustang Back Celica.

I think we would get along! :P That blue E30 is horn!

I've long wanted a TA22 celica (prefer the non mustang-back) with something like an FC20 under the bonnet with some nice ITBs.  A few hotrod touches like the flares, fender mounted mirrors and dished rims. Love the bonnet art on this black one!

Check out this fella from Sydney with the reversed steelies!

And?

hey bob

picked up a (kinda rusty) 2002 shell yesterday with all the trim and rebuilt turbo driveline in boxes off a friend who alas has no space for it anymore.

even with the body work required i'll still come out waay ahead in cost compared to say, a 2.7 targa at current rates

will aim to look like this when done.

Cool mate

I've given up harassing a client to sell me his tan coloured 2002 for 3 months. Cant afford it now that the 912 needs a rebuild

Hate seeing the Beemer sitting under a dodgy carport with boxes of crap stacked all over it.
