ANF Posted 29June, 2016 Report Share Posted 29June, 2016 All they need to do is re-programme them the same as they are doing for the people who chose to keep their cars.
Redracn Posted 30June, 2016 Report Share Posted 30June, 2016 Here's what will happen to the 500,000 4 cyl diesel cars that VW will be buying back (in the US) JalopnikThe stupidness of the regulators knows no bounds. Where are the enviro mob complaining about the huge amount of carbon the manufacture of the cars represents. Why not ship them to a country with lower/no emission standards where using them to replace older cars will make a huge difference to the countries actual fleet emissions. Even in the US they could be traded on a car over 10years old which would result in an improvement in emissions. What a disgraceful waste of valuable resources. It will be a far bigger environmental disaster than the poblem they are trying to fix. Far more stupid even than the "cash for clunkers" scheme in the UK.You'd think the capitalist ameicans could come up with a more profitable way (for at least the American economy) to solve this problem. This is about power and intimidation, not actually cleaning up the environment. But people still see governments as benign, helpful entities that should get more involved in every day decisions. This. It will be a far bigger environmental disaster than the poblem they are trying to fix. Far more stupid even than the "cash for clunkers" scheme in the UK.You'd think the capitalist ameicans could come up with a more profitable way (for at least the American economy) to solve this problem.of course they can , but the administration is not interested in fixing the problem or making people's lives better, but isolating and punishing 'enemies'. That has been the way for a while....probably since the nineties at least.the cash for clunkers originated in the USA and was a horrific waste of resources. As does agricultural subsidies to turn corn into petrol, something with a negative eroei but done all the same.Long time since the USA was majority ruled by capitalists. They are just as anti-business and anti-productivity as we are. In some cases worse.

tazzieman Posted 7July, 2016 Report Share Posted 7July, 2016 Why would an owner of one of these cars give a stuff? What are they gunna buy to replace it?Indeed. Unless they are welded to the branded by a thick umbilical cord. They will buy whatever fits their pocket size , and especially the colour which matches their lifestyle. These are functional appliances .In the end it's always about "jobs & growth" - and laying poo on your rivals.
