MB911 Posted 11November, 2016 Report Share Posted 11November, 2016 I need to replace the battery in my S2 as it has seen better days. Does anyone have a particular model that they have had a great run with? My car doesn't get driven that often at the moment so I need something that will cope with that. I do intend to trickle charge it from time to time.
Ozvino Posted 11November, 2016 Report Share Posted 11November, 2016 Not 944 - but all of my other cars including my Porsches. Varta is my recommendation, they hold a charge well and have a long life in cars that are not driven that often. I use battery trickle chargers where I can but can't always have my cars on them. German made and 3 year warranty, any issues they replace straight away no questions. I use these guys - I realise they aren't in Canberra but it will let you know what they cost and what model you needhttp://www.everybattery.com.au/index.phpcheersDaveedit - looks like they may have free delivery also

Peter M Posted 12November, 2016 Report Share Posted 12November, 2016 I used to be a brand snob but now just buy the Supercharged brand from Autopro. Cheap, reliable and 3 year warranty.Everyone on Performance Forum seem to rate them too.If the brand worries you, just put the stickers off. Timm Posted 6December, 2016 Report Share Posted 6December, 2016 Anyone running a smaller battery and daily their car?The behemoth in my 951 weighs a whopping 17kg...wondering if I could get away with a smaller one, like say an mx5 battery that's around 9kg.Only tricky thing is most smaller batteries are too tall, and they also need to have the ridge on the bottom for the bracket to clamp down onto. XLR8 Posted 6December, 2016 Report Share Posted 6December, 2016 I just went into Alco. They were inexpensive, 2 year warranty, and perfectly sized.
Plugger2 Posted 8December, 2016 Report Share Posted 8December, 2016 I got a SuperCharge Gold Plus MF66 from onlinebatteries.com.au for my S2, delivered to metro Brisbane for $186 incl. shipping. Best specs/warranty/price combo I could find:https://www.onlinebatteries.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=168Since it is a weekend car and not a DD, I always keep the battery for my 944 on an intelligent trickle charger (C-Tek) while in the garage. They do seem to significantly extend battery life -- the last battery I got more than 6 years out of it before replacement. (It was a rebadged RACQ battery, and I was intending to replace with another RACQ battery since that one had been so good, but unfortunately RACQ were sourcing batteries from a different manufacturer by then, they weren't as well speced and offered a shorter warranty.) OzJustin Posted 6March, 2018 Report Share Posted 6March, 2018 Bumping this old thread. I am in need of a new battery for my S2 and seeking recommendations. What is the best factory size (270 x 175 x 175mm to my knowledge) battery available? The higher CCA and Ah the better! I'm also interested in what battery brackets people are using if not running a stock battery (I'm using a tiny lightweight Odyssey at present). I've discovered that the Optima D34 and FullRiver battery that I had my eye on is too tall (200mm). Edit: The Varta E38 (750CCA, 74Ah) is top of my list at present. The width and height (175mm) seem to fit but it's going to be mighty close with the length (at 278mm).
90sF1Kid Posted 17March, 2018 Report Share Posted 17March, 2018 I run a Varta in my S2, picked it up a year and a half ago. From memory there was a specific one to fit the 944.

Very happy with the battery and it fits nicely in the battery tray, even being a 190mm high top model.
944s2cab Posted 19March, 2018 Report Share Posted 19March, 2018 I got one of these http://www.superstart.com.au/Products/ProductList/tabid/108/mode/details/pid/85/Default.aspx, paid trade price $110 They are bringing out a lithium battery in this (physical) size, but should weigh 6 kg or so, I think they said around April this year, not sure if it's still due then
