Dreamin Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 I have a brand new set of Euromeisters for my 82 Targa, I would like to get them painted in the RSR style with the rims and petals painted, can anyone recommend someone in Melbourne that can do this? Thanks. Philbee Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 There's 2 places I know of & used both:In moorabbin - advanced alloy wheels (nellburn Ave ), take a few days to do it. Can leave it under lock in their garage. In richmond - wheel solutions (church st), can do it same day. Prefer wheels only, hav limited space but can leave car if needed. Peter M Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 If you were to do it yourself you might consider this suggestion:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/963410-rsr-finish-super-simple-30-minute-diy.htmlGotta say it's a pretty clever way of masking. Niko Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 I second Philbee, Advanced Alloy Wheels in Moorabbin (not far from DAK DAK) did my Cayman wheels, great job good price.9555 6893
vl gra Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 I have been using advanced alloy wheels for business for years. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Never had any issues with there work.
Apogee Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 Apparently the trick is to submerge the rim into a basin of water filled enough so that only the petals are above the water ( mask out any bits you don't want painted with tape), then spray paint the petals. This makes it easy to get the same result for all 4 rims.
Dreamin Posted 19July, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 Thanks for all the suggestions, I might try the "Super Simple" method with the water, will post photos once completed.

I don't see how this would help as the air force from spraying would send the water flying around everywhere plus the fact that you have so much moisture around would affect the paint. neill Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 The water is purely for masking, not spraying while in the water.water gives a perfect line all the way around the petals so you can tape the same line. Remove from water, mask off what isn't getting painted and spray.
ANF Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 Ah, that makes much more sense cheers
P-Kay Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 The water is purely for masking, not spraying while in the water.water gives a perfect line all the way around the petals so you can tape the same line. Remove from water, mask off what isn't getting painted and spray.I don't believe that is the method described on the pelican forum. To be honest, I am not clear on how you would mask while still in the water. Maybe just too early for me and fat finger syndrome?I understood it was painted in the water, but you would need to mist it on.Guess I will find out soon enough when it comes time to do that to the E? firstone Posted 19July, 2017 Report Share Posted 19July, 2017 That was the impression I got as well. Mist it on so as not to disturb the water. Very clever.
LeeM Posted 20July, 2017 Report Share Posted 20July, 2017 No offence, but it clearly states it's painted with the water still there and not masked up
klassisch Posted 21July, 2017 Report Share Posted 21July, 2017 I've used Advanced Alloys several times all great experiences as well. Co incidentally I'm just about to get them to do some wheels for in RSR spec for an RSR recreation I've just bought..usually the're about $200-$250 a wheel but I'm assuming maybe a little more for the complexity for the RSR look, I'll post price for quote as I sent them pics yesterday so I should have a quote/price today. klassisch Posted 21July, 2017 Report Share Posted 21July, 2017 Just heard back, $350 per wheel, expensive but you know they'd be done right..
neill Posted 22July, 2017 Report Share Posted 22July, 2017 No offence, but it clearly states it's painted with the water still there and not masked up The water covers the section you want to paint?Once you have your wheels either polished or the silver painted then the water line is so you can get a perfect line for the black section. If you fill a bucket with a wheel in it with water you end up covering the area you want black. Like below-
firstone Posted 22July, 2017 Report Share Posted 22July, 2017 Paint the black first then cover the black with water to do the silver.
Alex69T Posted 23July, 2017 Report Share Posted 23July, 2017 Or just dip them in a bucket of black paint. Isn't that how the factory did it back in the day?
LeeM Posted 23July, 2017 Report Share Posted 23July, 2017 In the posted link, the water is still there when painting the petals Trying to mask up perfect lines would be a helluva lot harder
Honest Ron Posted 24July, 2017 Report Share Posted 24July, 2017 Just add airoplane jelly to the water and wait till it sets. Spray away!
