YellowDieselGolf Posted 17January, 2018 Report Share Posted 17January, 2018 Heya, I opened my CTP renewal today and was surprised to see that it was about $560. I normally pay around $400, so I jumped onto the NSW greenslip comparison website and got quotes starting at about $380. I gave my insurance company a call. They apologised and said the renewal didn't take my other policies into account. $360. I'm not sure how that happens, but $200 is $200. Last year when my comprehensive policy was due, I called around the other specialist companies for quotes. I went back to my insurer. They dropped the premium by about $360 and upped the agreed value by $15k. Don't just pay the bill - Make a call or two!
SteveF Posted 17January, 2018 Report Share Posted 17January, 2018 We were previously with Budget Insurance over a number of years. Each year we received the renewal and like yourself always did the shop around. It was always cheaper if you went online as a new customer. We would call up and explain this and they honoured the price. When asked why this was the case and suggested that they should look after existing customers there seemed to be no reason as to why. Essentially there is no loyalty so check each year for the best price.
firstone Posted 17January, 2018 Report Share Posted 17January, 2018 GIO kept doing this to me for a ctp. When I asked why so expensive. Oh we didn't take your comprehensive insurance into account. Well you did last year. Oh yes sorry we'll correct that now. Next year, same BS. I'm with Suncorp for the house n contents. Receive the renewal and bammm up up up. So I call two others and get a better price. Call Suncorp back, oh well we will give you a better price than them and increase your insured amount. Saving around 300 bucks for 20 min on the phone. That's 900 buck per hour I earned. Yes. Don't just pay it.
D2000 Posted 17January, 2018 Report Share Posted 17January, 2018 I have found the same. I have also called my insurer up and simply said the cost was too expensive and what could they do even without quotes from others. They have always improved the premium, although I do have multiple policies with one insurer

Many customers wouldn't bother to check and would just pay it.

ANF Posted 18January, 2018 Report Share Posted 18January, 2018 Shannons did it once to me years ago, I called them on it and they have not done it since, just the usual CPI increases now.
JV911 Posted 31January, 2018 Report Share Posted 31January, 2018 Just received the comprehensive renewal for my wife's car (2 year old Mazda Cx-5). Surprise, surprise $150 (15%) more than last year. No reason, just 'cause.

Until now!! Well I just checked my renewal .... I was not quite happy with the insured value of my ML and the premium, so I contacted Shannons and it is now higher and lower respectively and they also decided to discount my wife's Volvo premium (which I did not even ask about!), a good turn of events Porsche stayed the same. Overall we now pay less than 12 months ago!! As @YellowDieselGolf said, call them and most times you can save some $$
LeeM Posted 1February, 2018 Report Share Posted 1February, 2018 I rang Shannons about seeing how much cheaper it would be to have my car on club rego, and was pleasantly surprised it came up at $318, then he said thats less than half what you're paying now. Errr, huh? My premium was $520 was it not? Turns out it had jumped up by over $200 within 18 months (I usually don't check these things)
