$200,000 to spend in the UK

Recommended Posts

A mate of mine wants to buy a Porsche in the UK for about $200,000 that he can bring back here.  Would need to be pre-89 as he won't be living there for 12 months.

What would you buy for the money with a view to a fun drive but also ability to resell for a decent price (i.e. without any/too much import stigma) here if needed in the future?

Agree with the above re aircooled, and would be wary of margins for P cars.

Other options would be UR Quattros, Alpine GTA's, Alfa GTV6, Sierra Cosworths or but the main issue would be rust.

Good air cooled 911's of that era are more expensive in UK than they are here.

There are spotters in Oz right now looking to buy our "cheap" P cars & export back to UK

Unless they’re UK cars already here in which case they immediately become worth less !!!!!  And are unsalable.  Even if they’re good ...

So, here’s an arbitrage opportunity for someone who loves a bit of tasty irony - buy up all the air cooled UK delivered cars that are according to our locals suffer from  the vehicular equivalent of leprosy and ship them back to their delivery land to be flogged for a nice margin with the tag line “not been on salted UK roads - great Australian sourced UK car - hard to get”.

About 2 years ago a good mate here sold an ex UK Targa green 911 (vehicular equivalent of leprosy, plus AIDS, plus herpes) back to UK by advertising it on UK eBay. Got a very good price & the buyer in UK was super pleased it was RHD & he did not have to pay some sort of steep Euro Import duty - as the car had already been in UK.

Here is a selection of tasty 911s from Design911 UK - note most are LHD and & expensive:

You will pay import on cars , even though from the UK if you them to UK

and you know the journey inbound to here , if the dudes over there why doesnt he just do a personal import , he can bring what he wants ??
