CraigM Posted 3April, 2023 Report Share Posted 3April, 2023 Hi all Brand spanking new to this group, I returned to Aus last year after 21 years or so away, mainly UK based. I've done a bit of searching but not come across quite what I'm after, so reaching out now as I'm looking to bring my 2007 CS over. Unfortunately I've missed the boat re actioning this within 6 months of arriving (due to uncertainty re finding longer term work), so I may have missed the boat. I'm being steered towards the Specialist and Enthusiasts Vehicles (SEV) route, which I fear may be a bum steer by the ROVER crew, but seems my only avenue to try. Unless someone here has other compliant suggestions! Regardless, am keen to hear from/speak to anyone who's brought their Porker over from the UK to Aus in the last 2-3 years? Photos of the car in question below for viewing pleasure 🙂 JWM, tomo and Harsh
LeeM Posted 3April, 2023 Report Share Posted 3April, 2023 Welcome to the forum Craig 👍 I've no idea re the importing thing, sorry. What I will say, is that I reckon that's the first Cayman I've seen with Fuchs on it. Love it! Off ya go @Niko I'm sure Cam at @Classic Wheels Australia can do you a deal 👍 CraigM

I was in with the Cayman Owners Club, TIPEC and PCGB at different times over the past 6 years, it's good to plug into a group of enthusiasts over here. edgy Posted 4April, 2023 Report Share Posted 4April, 2023 Last I checked SEVS, Carrera GT & 918 Spyder were the only Porsche cars on the list, if you've missed the personal import window, the only other one is rolling 25 year rule, so afraid on that basis it would ineligible ... you could try and plead your case for special consideration granted we've been through some uncertain times and maybe, just maybe they may allow it? Browsing that SEVS list sure is interesting, you can see which manufacturers are paying their membership dues to the lobby groups and who isn't

I was on the phone to the ROVER crew this am, it appears if I go through the SEV's process (now looking at approved RAW's in Victoria...it's a long list....) I can get my Cayman put on there....seems to be a case of nobody's tried that route before for that model. Anyway, a journey of a thousand miles starts with 1 step as they say 🙂

I would strongly urge you talk to the right independent shops and research the eligibility criteria, if it could be done, I suspect we'd see a glut of imported GT & turbo cars of the water-cooled era.. the fact you dont see them is telling, would be more than happy to be wrong on this BTW. The Cayman S has the power to weight ratio to fulfill the "Performance criteria", however was "genuinely available" in Australia for pretty much the entire production run of the car from what I can tell. This is the guide you need to read on applying to add a SEVS entry: https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/sevs-guide.pdf tomo and CraigM
9ff Posted 10August, 2023 Report Share Posted 10August, 2023 Hi I just imported my Spyder via personal import using Austorient(aus) and EMrogers(uk) For SEV the only Porsches allowed are 996 Turbo, 918 and another that cant remember If I were you I'd parallel import a UK turbo. I calculated all in if you buy under 45k gbp your total cost should land at 115-120k aud all done delivered to mechanic (no reg) I use Autohaus in Chatswood
