In natural SS, weighs a fraction of OEM, hand welding is pure art work and sounds awesome blowing raspberries through it.

Can't say anyone else in my office shared my enthusiasm today though.

Well done. Exhaust note is such an immediately noticeable improvement.

Changing the muffler should be simple however has anyone got any experienced based tips how not to snap the old bolts off and make this a relatively simple procedure? I'm thinking of going nuts with WD40 and letting it soak in for a day first?

Yeah D that's a good plan.

Another is to use a ring spanner not an open ended spanner on the nuts. I know it sounds simple but many a man has been left with round nuts from not thinking before unscrewing..

There's plenty of how to's in the Pelican forum.  ie wd40, heat, rock the nut back and forth to break the rust etc

Good luck

Good luck with that approach! Cut them off and make sure the new ones have copper nuts!

Ooooh, I love parts-porn-parcels.

My colleagues always ask "What have you got this time?" to which I explain whilst un packing and a the response is alwasy glazed over eyes.................

Muffler tips:

Yes, drown everything with a penetrant, I use CRC or a Wurth product.

Even better is use Six-point Ring spanners, if you can get some, zeros slippage.(also get some six point sockets as these are great for all jobs)

Use new Bolts, with Allen socket heads and nyloc nuts+spring washers to re-secure.(Your local Mitre 10 should have these in hi tensile flavour)

New Gasket betwixt muffler and manifold, along with the permatex blue exhaust cement to seal(goes off with heat and makes a great seal)

Use a trolley jack with a nice 1 Metre x 20 cm flat plank to offer support after you have loosened the straps and lower and then again to offer up whilst you are pissing about with said straps again(Which are worthy of all the swear word names you can belt at them)

I would recommend new straps and allen headed bolts as ,well, old straps on new mufler looks pants.

Oh and keep a cutting disc + grinder handy just in case..........as a last resort.

Went to the garage to lube up my chain on the bike as its been raining an forecast to rain all week. Sprayed WD earlier on those 35 year old exhaust nuts so as I was about to head back I decided to see if those nuts would come off easily - with a crack each one unscrewed easily. Jobs easy as so went then to get those straps off and would you believe it - none of my allen keys fit! Will grab then from the engineering office tomorrow then tackle the change over with a beer in the evening.

Can't wait to hear it and still can't stop looking at those welds.
