SteamWolf Posted 10November, 2013 Report Share Posted 10November, 2013 I entered in the SM1000 at Cooma on the weekend. It was a great event with a huge variety of cars. Mine was the ONLY Porsche which was a surprise. I won Fastest N/A Six Cylinder and my class of 1C. I'll put videos up later. Here's Glen Torrens giving me grief about going faster in his yellow VW
nath Posted 11November, 2013 Report Share Posted 11November, 2013 Now the question is did they actually run the zonda or as with other outings I've seen of it was it there for looks?
Caver Posted 11November, 2013 Report Share Posted 11November, 2013 Congratulations Jim! Let's see how good Glenn's VW is when it's got 400,000 + on the dial!!!!!
SteamWolf Posted 11November, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 11November, 2013 Zonda ran all day! As did the Ferarri 458 and the lamborghini Gallardo. There was a very impressive lineup of exotics and muscle and no-one was holding back! Even two supercharged V8 Jags were there running some good times. Russ Posted 11November, 2013 Report Share Posted 11November, 2013 good work Jim! can't wait to see the videos might try and aim for next year (either in this car or the next one) I'm surprised GT isn't a member here already, I'm keen to see a bit more of his beetle

TINGY Posted 11November, 2013 Report Share Posted 11November, 2013 Good on you Jim great to hear. Can you tell us a bit about this event, is it track, road? Need a cams license etc?
SteamWolf Posted 11November, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 11November, 2013 It's a 1km drag race basically. You need either a CAMS licence or ANDRA/ASA (I think. I used my CAMS licence). Because it's so long there's basically hardly any drag cars that go. Most are either muscle cars, exotics or modified road cars. The odd ICV or historic is there too. All the car needed for preparation was a tow hook, battery sticker, extinguisher and a bonnet tie down. I did a high 29 second pass @175kph on my first run and by the 5th run I got it down to 28 sec flat at (I think) 180kph. Hard to say on the speed as my speedo is not all that accurate and I didn't get the times on the last few runs. Natsoft only list the ET. The car that won it was a R35 GTR which crossed the line in 17 seconds. A ridiculously modified jeep wagon was hot on his heels. The car with the highest top speed was a (true to the running joke) Toyota Supra which did it in 19 seconds but with a top speed of 308kph. SteamWolf Posted 12November, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 12November, 2013 Just got the results. My top speed was 185kph exactly. The car had no more to give and I used every trick in the book to streamline it for the last run, which clearly paid off. This is 15kph more than I was expecting when I entered! Caver Posted 13November, 2013 Report Share Posted 13November, 2013 Nice one Jim. Love the little tyre chirp into 2nd! Did you remove the wipers for one of the runs?
SteamWolf Posted 13November, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 13November, 2013 Yep, I found pulling the mirrors back was worth a few kph in the top end, and dropping the exhaust maybe the same again, then the wipers off was another few kph. It all adds up. My first run was 174.8, then 182.9, then I tried using 5th and it dropped to 175.7, then 184.3, and the last run was 185 exactly.
